About this product

Bruce Levingston writes of his new InchThe genesis of this recording was an invitation to perform for the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, an event which inspired me to meditate on the complex history of my birthplace, Mississippi. A storied, culturally-rich state, it has produced some of our country's most important artists - including William Faulkner, B.B. King, Leontyne Price, and Eudora Welty - but is also a place that has witnessed notably painful struggles with race, poverty, and equality. The scars are painful and deep. Here, among our colleges, churches, cotton fields and battlefields, contradictions abound. These disparate, but related, elements have long absorbed and confounded artists born in this mystical place. In recent years, I have come to see that my beloved state only reveals more intensely what exists in other places in our world the struggle for people to come to terms with one another's histories and differences. In this time of turmoil between peoples and nations, focused on issues of citizenship and patriotism, we continue this struggle. I chose to name this album InchCitizen,Inch not only because it contains works that reflect upon actual citizenship and human rights, but also to highlight that we are all citizens of one earth, and in order to survive, we must find ways to respect one another's differences, and strongly uphold each other's right to exist with dignity and freedom. On this recording, I have gathered together works by composers who have contemplated these issues deeply. The voices of these artists plead for civility, humanity, and love, and each brings a sense of immediacy to the cause - offering not a clenched fist, but an open hand that reaches out with a welcoming embrace.Inch Album Tracks 1. American Citizen 2. Summerland 3. Three Mazurkas 4. Accumulation of Purpose [Six Studies for Solo Piano]

Chopin / Jaworska - Etudes - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Études by Frédéric Chopin are three sets of études (solo studies) for the piano published during the 1830s. There are twenty-seven compositions overall, comprising two separate collections of twelve, numbered Op. 10 and Op. 25, and a set of three without opus number. They are some of the most performed works in the piano repertory, and hardly need any introduction. These sublime works are beautifully performed by Polish pianist Diana Jaworska. Born in Poland in 1968, Diana Jaworska now lives in lives in Southern France, where she teaches the piano, performs concerts, makes recordings, and composes her own works. Album Tracks 1. Etudes Op. 10 2. Etudes Op. 25

Chopin / Torbianelli - Late Piano Works - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In Chopin Late piano works, Edoardo Torbianelli matches once again the poetry of his pianism with the rigor of his scholarly investigations into the music he plays. Together with the booklet essay-writer, Jeanne Roudet, Torbianelli has considered afresh the music written by Frédéric Chopin in the last fifteen years of the Polish composer's life. To follow on from his collection, Torbianelli has recorded at Fondation Royaumont in France - playing on an 1842 Ignace Pleyel grand piano - Chopin's A flat Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op 61, the B minor Sonata Op. 58 and a selection of Mazurkas and Nocturnes for this new Schola Cantorum Basiliensis presented by Glossa. With this programme Edoardo Torbianelli is situating the compositional approach more directly within Chopin's Polish heritage; though he later went into exile the composer was present in Warsaw until just before the November Uprising in 1830. Unlike Berlioz and Liszt, it is argued, Chopin eschewed literature as direct inspiration and - again unlike Liszt - the Polish composer's piano music shares similarities in technique and performative style with the bel canto school of singing, the descendant of the art of eighteenth-century castrati and perpetuated in the 1800s by Italian singers as heard by Chopin himself in Paris. The resulting InchvocalityInch of Chopin's piano music finds echo in Edoardo Torbianelli's interpretations for a recording which can be considered both for it's fresh approach but also as a masterly reflection of the composer's genius. Album Tracks 1. Prélude in C Sharp minor, Op. 45 2. Mazurka in C Sharp minor, Op. 50/3 3. Nocturne in B Major, Op. 62/1 4. Nocturne in E Major, Op. 62/2 5. Polonaise-Fantaisie in a Flat Major, Op. 61 6. Mazurka in a Flat Major, Op. 50/2 7. Barcarolle in F Sharp Major, Op. 60 8. Mazurka in F Sharp minor, Op. 59/3 9. Sonate in B minor, Op. 58 10.
