Churchwood - 3: Trickgnosis - VINYL LP

Austin-based experimental/avant-garde blues band Churchwood continue their streak of winning albums with 'Hex City', their fourth full-length now available on Vinyl LP. This go-around finds them in a sardonic and playful mood with great new tunes including 'One Big White Nightmare','Hainted' and 'Sag' as the band weaves a spell of musical voodoo around the tongue twisting, multi-lingual lyrics of Joe Doerr. Veteran critic Michael Corcoran describes the band's sound as having Incha prog-like thickness while staying grounded in roots rockInch, while William Michael Smith says Churchwood is InchDense and nasty, literate and mean...Inch. Churchwood is recommended for those who favor artists such as Captain Beefheart, Nick Cave and Tom Waits who push the lyrical and musical boundaries of the blues form. Album Tracks 1. You Let the Dead in 2. One Big White Nightmare 3. Dogs 4. Hainted 5. Sag 6. Hallelujah 7. Metanoia 8. Woden's Day Blues 9. Hex City 10. Chickasaw Fire

Vinyl LP pressing. The universe feels real on The Turnpike Troubadours because the band resolved to let the album happen on it's own time. Moving out to the Prairie Sun recording complex in the desert country of Cotati, California, setting up in former chicken coops converted into studios, they metaphorically unplugged the clock and worked studiously through 12-hour sessions, wrapping up only when each story and every note rang true. There's Inch7 OaksInch, recounting a life made desperate by poverty, made more vivid by an incongruous hoedown accompaniment. InchBossier City,Inch focused on a sad mill worker who blows his pay regularly on gambling and booze. Album Tracks 1. The Bird Hunters 2. The Mercury 3. Down Here 4. Time of Day 5.
