Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey [4 Discs] [Blu-ray]

I love learning and the Cosmos series does a very good job at an introduction to many scientific principles. As an educational tool, it would have been great if it included more languages, spoken not just subtitled. And when it comes down to appreciating the celestial skies a UHD version would have been more appropriate rather than a Blu-Ray version. I believe they are working a Cosmos 2 which would be great if they continued if other concepts.

Cosmos has stood the test of time, it seems even more relevant now than when it was first released. And although it is blu ray it looked as good as 4k on my new top of the line 75" TV!

Watching the news, It undeniable that we live in a world that elevates ignorance and intolerance. I can't begin to express how much this type of educational broadcasting is sorely needed in our society. Especially one that caters to the young and the old. Allow me to preface by saying I consider myself an avid reader and at least somewhat proficient in matters regarding the physical universe. However, this show blows my mind! I truly appreciate the steps taken to present the subject material in an "easy to understand" approach that appeals to all ages. The host, Neil D. Tyson, a well-known astrophysicist whose personal appreciation and dedication to the expansion of science is clearly seen in several episodes. As a caveat, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there are a couple of occasions where the host is critical of religion and its undeniable involvement in the history of some of humanities greatest scientific achievements. Personally, I applaud their efforts. Coming from a former religious background, I understand only too well the tactics generally used to discredit or deny the legitimacy of ideas that contradict the established theocracy. In short, I highly recommend this series. A huge Thank You to Tyson, MacFarlane, Druyan, of course Sagan, and everyone else who strives toward a better, more educated future for those who come ahead.

I have been a fan of Carl Sagan's Cosmos since I was a child and it first aired back in 1980. His breezy, confident, yet humble presentation about the entire scientific enterprise and how we got to where we are asking questions about the world around us was both inspiring and clear to anyone who was willing to listen. He made it okay to not have all the answers , but never to be fearful of asking the questions, no matter where they may lead. I was initially skeptical of hearing of a remake to the series, despite the fact that two of the three main writers, Ann Druyan and Stephen Soter, were going to be attached to the project. But I think that Carl's original labor of love is in very capable hands with Neil deGrasse-Tyson. Tyson possesses the same sense of humbled wonder for the universe, and his excitement for both what we already know about it and what we have yet to learn is infectious. He was definitely made for this moment. And unless you think the universe is 6000 years old, I cannot think of a better way to engage with the evolution of a universe than to partake of Tyson's presentation of where we are now. To paraphrase a great man, watching this show is one of the things that hydrogen atoms do, given (now 13.8 billion) years of cosmic evolution--startstuff interrogating starstuff, learning about its own creation and place in the universe.

Great price for such an amazing show. Dr. Tyson is the perfect host.
