This is a biased review.
I saw this in the discount bin and had to grab it. I h as ve seen it several times, but never in widescreen. When I first moved to LA 21 years ago, I replaced a friend in his old apartment. My new roommate is the actor in the opening interview with the amputated leg. Half of his screentime is lost in the pan and scan version. I'm glad to see the scene as intended. I cannot properly rate the film as I have a connection to it. But it is pretty well done. Denzel Washington is Denzel, plus good performances by the rest of the cast.
Six different stories that tied everything together! Meg Ryan was amazing in this character role after always doing Rom-Com. So many horrible entities that showed substance abuse playing a factor with the characters.
While Denzel already had his first Oscar before this movie came up, it's not mentioned among his other pre-Training Day flicks. I'll be the first to admit that I am a sucker for military dramas. I am also a very big Denzel Washington fan. Thus, for me anyway, this movie had it all.
