About this product
Ero the Joker is the absolute all-time favorite opera among Croatians. A couple of years ago it celebrated it's seven hundredth performance alone at the Zagreb National Theater. The Croatian Jakov Gotovac, one of the most trailblazing composers of the earlier Yugoslavia, premiered the opera in 1935. After it's immediate success it toured through what was then the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, and today it continues to be a favorite selection for performance programs in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. In Germany, however, this comic opera brimming with musical wit has to be assigned the status of a rarity. It's last performance prior to this one was in Munich in 1942 - in a German translation. But now back to the original on Sunday, 19 May 2019, the Munich Radio Orchestra under it's principal conductor, the Croatian Ivan Repušic, presented a concert performance of Ero the Joker in Croatian. The lead solo roles are sung by native speakers of Croatian, and for the occasion the Croatian Radio Chorus, with which Repušic has launched a cooperative program, made the trip to Munich. Gotovac's music sparkles with Eastern European and Mediterranean folkloric influences. The composer is regarded as one of the founders of a Croatian national musical language that in the nineteenth century was fueled by the yearning for national identity. Here we hear music full of lyrical and witty moments and with magnificent arias and choral numbers. And it's hero is a joker who challenges fate. Album Tracks 1. Ero s Onoga Svijeta~1. Following Giuseppe Verdi's InchLuisa MillerInch, with which Ivan Repušic made his debut as principal conductor of the Münchner Rundfunkorchester in September 2017, and InchI due FoscariInch in October 2018, the conductor's successful cycle of early masterpieces by the famous Italian opera composer now continues with InchAttilaInch. In the recording of the concert performance from the Prinzregententheater, outstanding performers provide authentic fluidity and vocal splendor. This highlight of Munich musical life from the end of last year is now already being released on BR-KLASSIK as a double album. Like it's predecessors InchNabuccoInch and InchI LombardiInch, Verdi's early masterpiece InchAttilaInch is a choral opera in the best sense, and gained an enthusiastic reception from the Italian unification movement it's themes reflected the aspirations of the Risorgimento in the restless Italy of that time. The line InchAvrai tu l'universo, resti l'Italia a meInch (InchYou may have the universe, but let Italy remain mineInch) was enthusiastically received right from the start, helping to pave the way for the opera on the stages of Italy and Europe. It was not only the audience at the premiere at the Teatro La Fenice in Habsburg-ruled Venice who understood the full import of those words. Hardly any other opera by Verdi was received in Italy with so much euphoria. Outside the country, of course, it failed to make a lasting impression - probably also due to the extremely difficult role of Odabella.
![Kubelik Chor Und Sinfonieorchester Des Bayerischen Rundfunks - Glagolitic Mass - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/c06fcd6a-f461-44e8-8d23-3a5efbf8708f.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
This memorable and beautiful recording in high stereophonic quality of Gurre Lieder has not lost it's freshness after more than 50 years. The same applies to the recording of Janacek's precious Glagoli C Mass, recorded in 1963 by Kubelik again with the same choral and instrumental staff. Gurre-Lieder is a large cantata for five vocal soloists, narrator, chorus and large orchestra, composed by Arnold Schoenberg, on poems by the Danish novelist Jens Peter Jacobsen (translated from Danish to German by Robert Franz Arnold). The title means Inchsongs of GurreInch, referring to Gurre Castle in Denmark, scene of the medieval love-tragedy (related in Jacobsen's poems) revolving around the Danish national legend of the love of the Danish king Valdemar Atterdag (Valdemar IV, 1320-1375, spelled Waldemar by Schoenberg) for his mistress Tove, and her subsequent murder by Valdemar's jealous Queen Helvig (a legend which is historically more likely connected with his ancestor Valdemar I).
