Unfamiliar music (Paris) is a remarkable manifestation of Ielasi's approach, an approach in which delicacy, sometimes nostalgia, and emotions know how, with discretion, to infuse a sound universe built around polyphony and reminiscence, around textures and motifs that intertwine, combine and drive each other with grace and inspiration._crys cole & Oren Ambarchi « Sparkling or Silent » (2024)Sparkling or Silent, by the duo composed of crys cole and Oren Ambarchi, is a moment apart in their respective artistic approaches, taking a step aside and marking a point of fixation around an electroacoustic method which, while always latent in both of their works, here asserts itself as a central compositional modality. However, the electroacoustic approach is not called upon here for it's formal reasons, or even less as an aesthetic line to follow. On the contrary, it is seen as a writing tool, open to all possible sonic possibilities, a tool that allows the artist to draw, within the sound itself, an intertwined space where reminiscences, impressions and sensations weave a narrative on the edge of the imagination and the moments experienced together, a narrative in which a complex and sensitive layer of sound is embedded, blurring the boundaries between artistic project, intimate journey and shared dreams. Born out of a profound desire to explore the depths of the human heart and reconnect with each other after a pandemic-induced hiatus, Chrysalism marks a departure into an unmistakably pop-forward territory. It's evocative title refers to the feeling of tranquility that comes with being indoors during a thunderstorm, privy to the drama while remaining somewhat removed and untouched. With enthralling vocal harmonies, synth-led music and melodic guitar riffs, the pair explores topics like love, longing and heartbreak from a decidedly more mature perspective, no longer choosing to see themselves as victims of circumstances but rather actors in the storyline of their love lives. Composed and recorded with the help of Micah Jasper (ELIO, Rebecca Black, Slayyyter), a Los Angeles-based producer who shares the duo's pop sensibilities and references, Chrysalism is a poignant reflection of what it feels like to grow older and come into your own.

The Crystal Ark is the collaborative, body-centric New York pop project of Gavin Russom and Viva Ruiz. The group began when Russom asked Ruiz to write and sing Spanish lyrics over a pair of instrumentals he had created, blending his signature hypnotic synthesizer sound with live Afro-Latin percussion. Ruiz's fevered vocalizations, which blended song, spell and rallying cry, took these pieces to new heights and the result was two singles released on New York's DFA tag InchThe City Never SleepsInch and InchThe Tangible Presence of the Miraculous.Inch the latter single featured percussionist Alberto Lopez's fierce polyrhythmic drumming as a supplement to the already driving electronic pulse. Wanting to carry the sound forward and expand it, Russom and Ruiz established Lopez as a fulltime member and also brought in four more vocalists Jaiko Suzuki and Sokhna Heathyre Mabin (with whom Viva had worked previously), as well as bassist Tyler Pope and electronics expert Matt Thorley (with whom Russom had worked with during LCD Soundsystem's final tour). Second bassist Eliza Douglas joined shortly afterward. With this lineup in place, Russom and Ruiz produced their debut full-length album and launched a live show, featuring the full band plus dancers Irene InchDiscosInch Deros and Alberto Cortes and a video crew comprised of Bec Stupak and Johnny Woods. They have appeared all over the world at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Palais de Tokyo, the Hirshorn Museum and MOMA PS1 as well as many sweaty, dark night clubs. Album Tracks 1.
