EU-only 180gm vinyl LP pressing including two bonus tracks plus digital download. This special collector's edition includes The Crystals' sensational debut LP, Twist Uptown, which was originally issued in the summer of 1962. The group's first album was recorded at New York's Mira Sound Studios before producer Phil Spector had perfected his style at California's Gold Star Studios. In this nascent state, the influence of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller is evident. The contribution of the unsung arranger Arnold Goland should also be recognized. While the wall of sound found it's fullest expression with Jack Nietzsche's orchestrations, the arranger owed a debt to Goland's work heard here. In addition to the original album, this WaxTime collector's item also includes 2 bonus tracks, consisting of a pair of soulful numbers from the same period. InchHe Hit Me (and It Felt Like a Kiss),Inch with a dark subject matter that remains just as controversial today. On the other hand, Darlene Love also makes her presence felt on Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil's InchHe's Sure the Boy I Love.Inch Spector correctly reasoned that her sass and insouciance were right for these songs and their particular production style. Beyond the group's historic significance, all of these great songs retain a timeless resonance, thanks to Spector's seminal studio wizardry and The Crystals' sweet-but-streetwise vocal magic. Album Tracks 1. Uptown 2. Another Country - Another World 3. Frankenstein Twist 4. Oh Yeah, Maybe Baby 5. Please Hurt Me 6. He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss) 7. There's No Other (Like My Baby) 8. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8.
