When I was 7, my grandmother bought an NES to keep me entertained whenever we visited. I had one of my own at home, but she bought bizarre, difficult, and confidence-shattering games the likes of which I'd never seen before. I remember popping in Castlevania II and immediately feeling lost, as if the game was designed to punish me for not holding some sort of impossible-to-ascertain bit of knowledge. I'd yell at the TV, throw controllers after falling through a DIFFERENT floor tile for the hundredth time, and stomp off to play outside after reaching my limit of being unable to summon a tornado or make a jump. Armed with magazine snippets and playground tips, I'd return to the game with each visit and progress a little farther. The weekend that I beat the game felt like as legitimate an accomplishment as I could find in gaming. Dark Souls is such a game. DS is as challenging as it is rewarding - every success and every failure comes as a result of your efforts, patience, and networking with other gamers to discover secrets or massage the games stats, animations, and design to your needs. You'll die, a lot. You'll make mistakes, a lot. You'll likely swear, dependent upon self-control. But when you beat a boss, reach an item or weapon, defeat a level, or even *gasp* beat the game, you'll feel a true sense of victory.

Dark Souls provides a deep, extremely challenging, yet highly satisfying experience for players with a penchant for deep exploration and ponderous, precise combat. Environments are vastly scaled, sometimes haunting and foreboding, but always beautiful. Atmosphere is sometimes chilling and muted, but fits perfectly with the oftentimes dark backdrop and lore. The game can get lag at certain areas of the and camera can cause issues when closing in on enemies, especially against larger foes that can kill you in one or two hits - times when you absolutely DON'T want the camera spazzing out on you. Extreme challenge can be a turn off point for some. Some longtime players can be a nuisance to newer players, so first timers might want to consider playing offline.

The greater the challenge, the greater the reward, and this game is the most challenging game I've played. Very fun gameplay and difficult boss fights make this game a must-have for serious gamers.

This game quickly worked its way up to being one of my favorites in years. It's challenging, but never unfair. It forces you to master all its systems and once you do the difficulty becomes much more manageable. The story and atmosphere are great. The level design is maybe the best I've ever seen. Without spoiling anything, almost every part of the world is interconnected and once that starts to become apparent, then you can see just how genius it is. The RPG elements are great and really allow for a lot of variety. The only complaint is that you can't respect stats so it is possible to make some big mistakes if you are not careful. I'd recommend trying out the various class abilities before spending many points on any one stat. The online mechanics are very unique and well implemented. Lastly, the game doesn't give you any clues to its secrets and some things can be very easily missed. I wouldn't recommend looking online if you don't have to, but talk to ALL npcs and explore every nook and cranny. Buy it!

Dark souls is a tough game for those that are new to it. Especially for those that think they will be able to kill everything without being careful. You will die ALOT and i mean ALOT. However that helps the game the knowledge of not knowing whether you will be killed in the next area or fighting a boss while low on esflacs makes you stay on your toes.

Borrowed a friend's Dark Souls copy and I fell in love with the game. Dark, mysterious, great combat PVE and PVP, and there's so much to explore. After having played and beat the game I wanted to own it myself. I saw my local BestBuy had a used copy so I picked it up. The game runs perfect, though it didn't come with the retail case but an after market one. No big deal. I got the copy for $10. It is a steal for a timeless game. If you're a fan of Action RPGs, games with extensive Lore, and challenging and rewarding fun then pick up Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Dark Souls 2, and soon Dark Souls 3 (04/12/2016)!

This game is very difficult and provides little guidance as to what to do and where to go. Figuring all of this out on your own is the fun part! Defeating difficult bosses and discovering new paths and items is highly rewarding IF you have the patience. If you are impatient and easily frustrated, then this game is probably not for you.

Dark souls has a very detailed and immersive world where you fight many creatures. If you like games that require you to learn your enemies combat behavior and have some patience you will like this game. The game is hard but rewards thoughtful gameplay. I am really enjoying the game.

This is like... my third time buying Dark Souls; the first was on the 360, the second one was for the PS3 but then my friend "borrowed" it, and here we are. Alright, here's a story: There was a time, I used to think Dark Souls was an overhyped and average game. It wasn't until I played Demon's Souls that I realized that Miyazaki was a master at game design. This was around the time when Dark Souls II (not directed by Miyazaki-san) was released, so I bought that and had a pretty good time. Then a year later, I decided to dip back into Dark Souls and MAN. If you're reading this and have never played the game, stop. Don't read anything, don't watch anything, just buy the game. This is one of those games that must be experienced with little knowledge. Trust me. This is close to a perfect game.

I purchased this Play Station 3 game for my son. He couldn't wait to break into it. The graphics are life like. A definite must have for someone who enjoys blood and gore. It is rated as "M" so please purchase for appropriate age group.

By now you've probably heard of the Souls series. It's not for everyone. There is no Easy Mode. And there shouldn't be. You'll replay the same segments over and over and over, because you will die... a lot. Think of these games as the modern equivalent of old 2D side scrollers like MegaMan and Ghosts n Goblins. Hard, but not impossible, and once you replay and replay, you learn and get better, until you beat that unbeatable level/boss and you've never felt more accomplished in a game ever.

Dark Souls is a game that doesn't explain a lot about itself. It's up to the player to explore the mechanics and investigate things. There needs to be a desire for exploration and learning, and some pride to keep you persisting against the boss you can tell you're a little early to be facing. The combat has great weight and feel and the story/world is interesting and subtle is the way few games are. It also does a great job of scale, making your journey feel truly epic every step of the way.

GAME OF ALL TIME. Fixed the videogame industry by leading sheeple away from waypoints and climbing towers which do useless collect-a-thon garbage

This game is amazing! I had soo much fun playing it with the difficulty and the epic boss fights! Also, the weapons and armor are soo awesome in the game, soo much detail went into them and I was just amazed! The storyline is kind of empty, but if you go online and watch the lores of Dark Souls, you find out the story is absolutely amazing!
