For the price I got this at (including the bigger SSD for OS) still great value. Windows 10 struggles with some of the hardware drivers etc but no deal breakers. All my complaints are with software bloat from Dell and what is pre-installed. I got this to run VR and games... does an excellent job for a laptop.

I was disappointed in this laptop because it had a 5400 RPM hard drive. It also got very warm on my legs after a few minutes game time. Felt like a well built laptop though. Would not recommend for gaming but for most other tasks it would be great.

theff59,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry that your computer is not performing the way you'd like it to. Here are some ways to keep your computer performing at a cooler temperature:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

The laptop I recieved was brand new, but upon first use, the fans would spin at max speed every 2 minutes for a couple of seconds. This would last until I shut off the laptop. I was not running anything intensive, only 1 tab of google chrome. The laptop was not warm to the touch, so I don't understand why it would act up this way. The fans were very loud. If I had brought the laptop to an auditorium, the entire room could most definitely hear it. I then tried to reset the entire laptop back to factory settings to return it and during the process, the laptop became extremely hot and the fans went crazy again. The laptop got so hot that it was definatley concerning. Lucky I was able to return the laptop and inform the store of the problems since it was within the first 2 weeks of receiving it. I would not reccomend this product.

Iwang,
We're sorry to hear about the fan noise and the overheating that you experienced. Most times the fan noise can be resolved by updating your computer's BIOS.
With regards to your computer overheating, this computer has the Alienware Control Center which allows you to pick a thermal profile that fits your needs.
We're sorry to hear that you returned your computer but we hope that you will choose Dell again in the future.
Best,
Bryan

I have had a Dell Gaming Laptop in the past and have enjoyed its capabilities. This will be the second one and for the past 4 days that I have been using it the Laptop has not disappointed me. I am still learning the new Windows set up. I would recommend the Dell to anyone that is looking for its capabilities for there needs.

Laptop ran hot constantly, fan ran continuously but the issue that caused us to return it was the screen and graphics which had major problems that the support team could not fix. I am disappointed because I really like DELLS and have never had the problem which I experienced with this one.

I wish I had a better review to write, unfortunately it was dead on arrival. I returned it to the store and exchanged it for an ASUS that they had in stock.

Fast, responsive, not a lot of flex. Great laptop for those who hate lugging your tower into the living room for VR.

It’s a really good buy for designers and architects

Firstly, let me say, overall the machine is a solid mid tier gaming machine in almost all aspects. Secondly, that missing aspect is the screen refresh rate... the MSRP for this device is $1,550 and the screen is a meager 60 hertz??????? I am honestly thinking of returning this. As a loyal Dell/Alienware buyer for nearly a decade now, this is my biggest disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I should've researched this more, but I did watch a few reviews on the G7 and they said they had 144 hz screens! I've never written a review like this before, and as a Dell fanboy, it HERTZ...
