This is a great little drive at a very good price. I bought this to use with a new HP Laptop I just bought that did not have an internal drive. I got a real laugh when I opened the installation drive. It was a picture of plugging in the the drive. Love it! Would definitely buy this again.

Bought this external DVD-CD Player for my new Dell desktop computer. Most new computers don't have these optical drives built in anymore as most people stream. Good price when on sale. Works well. Just plugged it into the computer with the USB cord that came with it and it played CDs. So no installation except to plug it into the computer USB port. It's solid. Lightweight, 7 ounces. It can also burn CDs and DVDs, but I probably won't have to do that. The only problem was getting the protective film peeled off the new device. Finally, I put a piece of Scotch tape on the film and it loosened it and lifted it up. It was a bit of a hassle to get my local Best Buy store to price match Amazon. I had to go through two cashiers and then a manager. And to find the product in the store I had to ask three associates. The device is a bit noisy. Appearance is nice. Four stars because I haven't burned any CDs or DVDs.

It’s nice product and very tiny, overall functionality wise it’s really good only draw back it doesn’t have standalone power supply.

I am well satisfied with this Dell external cd writer/player for multiple reasons! Due to absence of burning device on new and many computers, I encountered the necessity of asking my grandson (since he's up to date with technology), to guide me the needed device/s to deal with my "problem" if any. He guided me thru some devices but, when I came to Dell products, I put my trust on this DW316. Purchased price - excellent! Very easy to manage. Easy to "plug and play/burn!." Carrying along with i.e. light, slim and sturdy. Connecting cable included. Well... what can I say... Overall: great!

I purchased a new computer from Best Buy. Most don't come with DVD players, I am old school, a creature of habit and love sales. This purchase marked all the boxes. The DVD player was on sale! It was very easy to set up and use. It's light weight so I set it right on top of my screen with a little shelf that I had. I am currently jamming to old rock music and really enjoying it! Thanks for the great product and the fast shipping. Overall, another great Best Buy purchase and experience!

I purchased this to use with a new Dell laptop, which did not come with a cd/dvd drive. While this is a small item, the price at BestBuy was considerably less than that on the Dell website (where I purchased the laptop) for the identical model. It's compact and light and comes with Media Suite 22 software, cable, and instructions. It shipped and arrived quickly.

I bought this drive so that I could digitize my CD collection of about 150 discs - it has worked very well for that purpose! I use a CD ripping program that can assess the accuracy of ripped song files. With this drive, I have consistently gotten 99.9% and 100.0% quality. It's ripped about 100 discs so far, and I've yet to encounter any problems. Also, the drive is very lightweight, and its interior is durable for how minimalistic it is. Both CDs and DVDs play fine on it.

I compared products and read reviews before making this purchase. The positive reviews influenced my decision to get this external drive, as my computer with a built-in DVD player was acting out and taking forever to load. This drive is a great buy because you don’t need to install a software in order to run it.

This is an absolute essential. I purchased a new 2017 Dell Precision 5520 and it did not have a built-in optical drive. I however had a lot of content (including software) on DVD's and wanted to use/install them. This external drive is perfect and does what it says. I am very happy with this optical drive. It is slim enough to carry in my laptop bag and looks good too...

I was glad to purchase this DVD writer to play videos for my practice, since most laptops no longer include a DVD player. At the same time, I was able to save a lot of money with my discount.

I HAD NEVER TRIED ONE BUT IT HELPED ME TRANSFER ALL MY DOCUMENTS AND APPS I HAD ON MY OLD COMPUTER TO MY NEW COMPUTER, THE EASE IN WHICH I TRANSFERRED THE OLD SOFTWARE TO MYH NEW COMPUTER WAS AWESOME. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT.

So far no issues, works as intended. Just plug and play. Includes cd software. Got it on sale. Would recommend.

Price was too good to pass up. I only needed this for a one time deal. I needed to use my windows 10 rig to burn a Linux disc for my old MacBook. Since then I’ve been popping in music cds from my “flash back 90’s huge book of CDs” and importing them into iTunes. You can barely see it sitting on the desk.

Hi! This was easy to use but make sure to download the program from the DVD tucked away under the cardboard packaging. Then I was all set!! (I was in a hurry and overlooked it at first - the dvd player did not work until I inserted the startup DVD to download the program that helps run the DVD player).

I love the portable CD drive. It allows me to still be able to install software of my new computer from CDs.
