I recently upgraded from another Denon AVR to this beast, and so far, so good. Setting up the room correction (Audyssey/Dirac capability) was smooth and easy, vastly improving the soundstage of my home theater right out of the box. The step up in power and processing is immediately noticeable. Driving a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup is absolutely effortless for this unit, offering incredible clarity, crisp dialogue, and deep, dynamic bass management. Switching between 4K gaming and 8K streaming content is seamless with zero handshake or video pass-through issues. If you are looking for a robust, future-proof receiver that simplifies complex room calibration while delivering pristine audio, this is worth every penny. Highly recommended!

I purchased this unit to replace a Sony STR AN1000. This was a massive upgrade. It’s currently powering a 5.2.4 system with no amplification. I did purchase and install DIRAC active room treatment, and wow, what a difference this made versus Sony‘s 360 spatial audio. The Denon is a hands-down better product than what I was using. I have no issues with HDMI switching and so far there have been no audio issues or concerns. Setup was easy and straightforward, and the UI is very intuitive. I feel like this is a very good receiver that will last me for years to come, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone with a similar sized system. For anyone curious my bed layer speakers are all Klipsch reference premier, and due to their sensitivity, this receiver has had no problems powering them at high volumes. However, I plan to get an external amplifier just to see if there is a difference. 10 out of 10 would buy again.

I am not sure how this compairs to other new receivers because I was not able to compair I had to purchase on features and reviews that would work in my system. It sounds far superior to my 12 year old Onkyo TX-NR818 and yes I would recomend.

I have owned a lot of Denon receivers. This was the least expensive of all my prior purchases. It was not able to perform an HDMI handshake. I called & searched instructions. Followed every prompt, even did a hard reset & nothing worked. Worked for over 2 weeks. Nothing worked. Returned to Best Buy. There is a young lady at Best Buy, Edith, that made the return painless. She knew how to perform an exchange for another receiver. I returned or exchanged & was out of the store in 10 minutes. Amazing!

Hello,
We are very sorry to learn about your experience. We appreciate your feedback and want to assure you that this is not a common issue reported by our customers. The AVR-X3900H is equipped with the latest HDMI board. Handshake issues can occur anywhere within the video/audio chain. Whether it’s an older HDMI cable that needs to be replaced with Ultra High Speed HDMI cables, or settings within the receiver or associated equipment, there could be several factors involved.
We hope you will consider giving Denon another try in the near future. If you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our customer care team.
Sincerely,
Denon
