About this product
Dutch violinist Niek Baar joins the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie under the direction of Christoph Poppen to perform two classic violin concertos from the mid-19th century Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto in D minor and Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. Both of these violin concertos were written for the legendary Joseph Joachim, who had a hand in shaping the final form of both pieces, although ultimately his changes to the Schumann were rejected by the composer. The highly original, introverted and melancholic concerto is a moving self-portrait of the 43-year-old Schumann a few years before his death, and Bruch's No. 1 is one of the most beloved concertos of the entire repertoire. Album Tracks 1. Violin Concerto in D minor, Woo 1 2. Violin Concerto in G minor, Op.26

When listening to this new CD it is difficult to comprehend why the music world had a negative opinion of Robert Schumann's works for violin and orchestra for so long. Baiba Skride now offers a performer's perspective on Schumann's violin oeuvre by recording not just the Violin Concerto in D Minor but also the Phantasy in C Major op. 131 and the Violin Concerto in a Minor op. 129. The last of these is an arrangement for violin of Schumann's Cello Concerto that the composer made for Joachim. Album Tracks 1. In Kräftigem, Nicht Zu Schnellem Tempo 2. Langsam 3. Lebhaft, Doch Nicht Zu Schnell 4. Fantasy in C Major, Op. 131 5. Nicht Zu Schnell 6. Langsam 7. Sehr Lebhaft

Henri Marteau (1874 - 1934) was one of the most important violin and violin teachers of the early twentieth century. His compositional work found little attention despite some respectable successes. Since 1982, the International Music Center Haus Marteau of the district of Upper Franconia maintains the artistic legacy of the German-French Composer in the form of master classes for musical talents from all over the world, publications on life and work as well as recordings of selected compositions on phonograms. Missing are the autograph and the orchestral libretto from Marteau's Violin Concerto op. 18. Raoul Grüneis re-orchestrated the work with the help of the piano reduction and a rehearsal recording by the WDR Symphony Orchestra. Enthusiasm among the audience and critics awoke the premiere of this version. InchThe work sends the listener more impressively home than many other violin concertos established in the repertoire,Inch Torsten Kohlschein judged in the Freie Presse. Album Tracks 1. Violinkonzert C-Dur Op. 18 2. Serenade Op. 20 FÜR 2 Floten, 2 Oboen, 2 Klarinetten, Bassklarinette Und2 Fagotte
