Duet for Guitars #2 introduced us to M. Ward's characteristic rasp and fingerpicking prowess. More minimal in scope than future records, the songs run the gamut from lullabies to rocking declarations of love. Released on Co-Dependent Records in 1999, one of the initial 1,000 copies found it's way to Howe Gelb, who re-released it in 2000 on Ow Om. It went out of print and remained a hard-to-find piece of the M. Ward catalog until 2007, when it was reissued on Merge with three new tracks. More than an origin story, Duet for Guitars #2 is a beautiful, assured album that is sure to make lo-fi and Americana aficionados swoon, to say nothing of M. Ward fans new and old. Album Tracks 1. Duet for Guitars #2 2. Beautiful Car 3. Fishing Boat Song 4. Scene from #12 5. Good News 6. The Crooked Spine 7. Look Me Over 8. Who May Be Lazy 9. It Won't Happen Twice 10. He Asked Me to Be a Snake & Live Underground 11. Song from Debby's Stairs 12. It Was a Beautiful Car 13. Were You There? 14. Not a Gang 15. Duet for Guitars #1

Ctober 28, 2021 marks the centennial of Arturo InchChicoInch O'Farrill. This vinyl of two original compositions is named The Centennial Suites to honor this moment in time. I have been indelibly shaped by Chico O'Farrill. The first movement of the Afro Latin Jazz Suite, Mother Africa, is based on South Asian Harmonium textures, Indigenous African Rhythms, a cluster based harmonic improvisational setting and fragments of Chico's motifs in The Afro Cuban Jazz Suite. The second movement is based on Peruvian rhythms and is called All of the Americas. The connecting Adagio is based on what I consider Chico's most gorgeous writing, his ballads and boleros and the final movement What Now is based directly on the angularity of Rudresh's motivic improvisational approach. What I hope I've achieved is an acknowledgement of his integrity, curiosity and willingness to risk it all.Four Questions is the marriage of creative practice and personal conviction. In this piece I was inspired by truth telling. Dr. Cornel West is a truth teller. He makes many in and out of his community nervous. Whether or not you agree with his views he is a modern-day prophet. In this case I was transformed by a speech Dr. West made in 2004 in Seattle based on his book, Black Prophetic Fire. In the speech he expounds on four questions posed by W.E. B. DuBoise in his book, Souls of Black Folk. These two suites were both awarded critical success having earned Grammy awards. This is sweet vindication for me as I consider all the merit I have as an acknowledgement of a principle I learned from Maestro Arturo 'Chico' O'Farrill. Do what you do at the highest technical level that you can, do this with artistic integrity, marry it to your convictions and worry not about what reception you'll receive. These suites are a reflection of those values instilled in me by a humble Irish German Cuban visionary who lived w

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8. Dai the Flu 9. Headup 10. MX
