    First impressions are important!

I was looking to get deeper Into home audio for music and music production. I’ve never owned a pair of passive speakers and only used active monitors for a while. I researched for days, looked at different reviews, did the homework on the technical stuff and settled on these based on quality and value ratings. I got some advice and decided to go with the Denon DRA 800H 2-channel receiver that gives about 120 watts per channel. Paired with the receiver amps, they sound powerful, have a wide range and nice punchy lows. Once my pockets can afford it I’ll get a subwoofer but I’m in no rush. The highs and mids are clear and cut through so nice. The lows are accurate and punchy but it won’t pound your chest like a subwoofer can. I still think the overall sound makes these a 10/10 for me and I’ve had a few good speakers throughout the years for reference points.

    Performs beyond their price range

I had been using large Sony 4 way floor standing speakers that had 8 inch woofers for almost 10 years for both music and home theater. I had quantity but not necessarily quality. I saw the original Elac B6 speakers go on sale and started looking into them to use with my computer setup. Tons of positive reviews got my attention and i went to the local best buy to have a listen to these 2nd gen B6's. The sales person played my requested songs and i was blown away. Heard details that i had not heard in my favorite songs with my larger speakers. Was so impressed that i bought 4 of them, the matching center speaker and the subwoofer! Came home and listened to the "music" from my wife first and then set these up and am living happily ever after. Don't take my word for it though. Sound is such a subjective thing though and definitely audition these for yourself. These bookshelves are rated to go to 44hz and i certainly don't think the low end is lacking. For home theater use, a sub adds the presence and sound pressure for lack of a better description and i dont miss my floor standing speakers. Since the picture in this review was taken, i went ahead and added the dolby atmos height effect speakers as well.

Best bang for the buck speakers

I originally bought a pair for some "fill in sound" in the front sides of my 2 channel stereo system using a 125 watts per channel amplifier - two weeks later I bought another pair for my rear channel "fill in" using a 30 watts per channel amplifier not shown in picture - fills my room nicely!

A worthy upgrade to older speakers

The original Debut speakers pushed the bar on sound quality for relatively inexpensive speakers, but now the Debut 2.0 6.2 series has pushed the bar even further upwards. The newer 6.2 offer a flatter, more neutral, frequency response. The silk dome tweeter offers great clarity, but is not fatiguing like some more "forward" sounding speakers in this price category. I replaced some lower end Polk Audio speakers in my computer office with these and the difference is very discernible. Much better clarity, definition in the bass, and just overall better dynamics. If you are in the market from some speakers in the ~$300 range, you would do well to give these ELAC Debut 2.0 6.2 speakers an audition. I also liked that the bass port is curved such that no "chuffing" sounds are evident, even at moderate volume levels. And having that port in the front allows me to put them on a shelf closer to the wall without causing an unnatural rise in bass frequencies I chose these over the Klipsch RP-600M speakers because I needed something more neutral for equalizing live concerts I record while also getting great use out of them for general listening.

Questions & Answers
  • Do these speakers have good definition at low volume and how much power do you need to achieve that?

Yes but choose a receiver with a decent power supply. I tried a low end Sony 7.2 with a small 240W power supply and wasn't happy. Upgraded to an Onkyo with 490W supply which drives these very well. I am very happy with them.

  • The spec's on your web site say 6.5 woofers but the downloadable brochure says 5.25. Which is it ?

    The DB62 are 6 1/2”. The DB52 are 5 1/4”

  • Does anyone know what a good set of speaker stands to handle the 6.2 are and if there's a way to secure them to a stand?

I used a two cube book shelf rated at 30,lbs each shelf. It does well, with a little modification for looks. Does not need any tie down.

  • Can these be wall mounted?

If you have a shelf or something sturdy enough to hold them, then yes.
