This a very brutal and compelling film. And not very many high production films on the battle for Stalingrad WW2 can measure up. It's hard to believe this film has been out for almost 20 years now but it will hold up to time. If your a bit of a WW2 history nut, this film is a must see.

This movie is totally underrated. Heck, even the TRAILER (included as a special feature) is better than most movies. High stakes. simple premise. Great music. Ok yeah it's a little funny the accents thing (British and American all of which playing Germans and Russians) but whatever.

$6 for this gem of a movie? I only wish it was on 4K. This movie was quite a roller coaster. It came out when I was only 7 years old and I saw it now that I’m 25. Oh they knew how to make movies back then without so much special effect. Such a good movie.

I’ve seen bits online and the cinematography is amazing! Am gonna be honest and I have to say I haven’t seen it entirely yet, but some of the battles sure are great. If you love war films I really recommend this one

Enemy At The Gates is a great war movie... but perhaps not a masterpiece of film. The best aspect of the movie though is that it gives you a view of the war rarely seen in the West... A view of the Eastern Front through Soviet eyes. It does not glamorize either the war or the Soviets, and provides a raw look at Urban combat in WWII.

If u want to watch a great war movie - this one is for you. Battle scenes are made with perfection. If u like Saving Private Ryan, u will like this one as well

Excellent adaptation of the legendary battle of Stalingrad.Blueray transfer quality is excellent.Excellent sound and picture quality on this blueray.

Still a worthwhile WW2 story besides the fact that it was Hollywoodized by some drone exec fools to satiate the masses of consumer lambs.

Very good war movie based on a true story. It is full of none stop action and a very strong storyline with some interesting scenes.

Even though things were changed to make the film more romantic and appealing this is a great take on a great story.

After many major Hollywood epics about the war on the Western Front (THE LONGEST DAY, PATTON, A BRIDGE TOO FAR, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN), it is long overdue that ENEMY AT THE GATES, centered on the pivotal battle for Stalingrad, should play to audiences ... particularly American audiences. The core of the plot is the personal duel between two expert snipers, the Red Army's Vasily Zaitsev (Jude Law) and the German Wehrmacht major, Koenig (Ed Harris), the latter brought into the Stalingrad cauldron to kill the former before he totally destroys the morale of the German troops trying to capture the city. It's a cat and mouse confrontation depicted with startling realism, though, in this case, the mouse is just as deadly as the cat. The rest of the film is just window dressing, especially the sappy love triangle between Zaitsev, political commissar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes), and a female Red Army sniper, Tania, played by Rachel Weisz. The film, set among the rubble and destroyed factories of Stalin's city, is visually stunning. The performances of Law, Harris and Fiennes are excellent, as is that by Bob Hoskins, who plays Joe Stalin's political representative on the scene, Nikita Krushchev. My complaints center on the accents of the main characters, which don't sound Russian by any stretch of the imagination, the previously-mentioned and totally superfluous love story, and the fact that the Krushchev is given way too much screen time at the expense of the Russian general, Chuikov, who doesn't even appear, even though he was the Red Army's military commander whose gritty defense of the city ultimately prevailed. This story of the duel between Zaitsev and his German nemesis is based in fact, though a better telling of the tale is the work of book fiction, WAR OF THE RATS, by David Robbins. If you're interested in this footnote to the Stalingrad struggle, the book is a "must", and the film will serve as excellent visual reinforcement

One of my favorite movies just got even better. Amazing how blueray improves on plain DVD.

Ultimated world war based classic movie. Thrilling movie. Good to watch any number of times.

Bursting into my Top Five war movies of all time is this film. A gritty and realistic portrayal of one of the worst battles in the history of war - the 1942-43 armwrestle for the city of Stalingrad. Much has been made of the actors speaking in their native accents, but this seems a trivial complaint - the film is in English after all! More important is the masterful manner of speech of the actors - Bob Hoskins' gutteral exultations as Ukrainian potato farmer Nikita Krushchev; Joseph Fiennes' pompous and proud intonations as the political officer; Jude Law's common man for the peasant turned soldier; Ed Harris with the clipped and crisp tones of a German officer. This is my pick for the best film of the year so far (August). It is truly a cinematic masterpiece, with horrific scenes of the violence of war, brilliant dialog and heart-wrenching tragedy. Expect to be moved.

very tense drama that shows some of the cat and mouse tactics of sniper warfare

This is a great movie with a combination of great actors, music, story, and picture.
