Led by one of the great guitarists, Peter Green (1946-2020), Fleetwood Mac (initially Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac) formed in 1967 after Green left John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Taking rhythm section Mick Fleetwood and John McVie with him, Green named the new outfit after them because he anticipated his own departure at some point and wanted them to have a lasting identity beyond his involvement. Bolstered by two more talented players, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan, the group immediately made their mark with their accomplished take on the blues - on Mike Vernon's Blue Horizon tag - before branching out to produce some consummate and hugely successful rock songs and instrumentals. Green led the band for less than three years, leaving in May 1970, but in that time - as documented on this superb collection, first issued in 1971 - he produced some of the finest music of the era, including certified classics like 'Albatross', 'Black Magic Woman', 'Oh Well' and the heartbreakingly beautiful 'Man of the World'. Album Tracks 1. The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown) 2. Oh Well - Part 1 3. Oh Well - Part 2 4. Shake Your Money Maker 5. Need Your Love So Bad 6. Rattle Snake Shake 7. Dragonfly 8. Black Magic Woman 9. Albatross 10. Man of the World 11. Stop Messin' Round 12. Love That Bur

Writing for Rolling Stone, Barry Gifford praised blues-rockers Fleetwood Mac's debut album in early 1968, describing it as 'potent enough to make the South Side of Chicago take notice'. Within a year the group, led by the incomparable Peter Green, were in the Windy City at Chess Studios for a recording session with many of the renowned Chicago blues musicians that had inspired them, including Otis Spann, Honey Boy Edwards and the legendary songwriter Willie Dixon.
