Fosi Audio - K7 DAC Headphone Amp for Gaming - Black

I have needed a DAC for a while now, and Fosi has been on the list of potential options. Fosi put out an ad saying that they were now selling products at Best Buy, so I decided to grab this and the C3 from them. The K7 is a good entry point if you want a mix between a gaming-focused DAC and something for an audiophile. Mine is hooked up to my computer via USB and to my CD player via an optical connection. It has a dedicated mic 3.5mm port, a headphone/IEM 3.5 mm port, and a 4.4 mm port on the front. It has a simple Bass/Treble adjustable EQ preset that can be bypassed (I find this feature exceptionally useful as I test alot of audio gear). I don't use the Bluetooth feature or any of the other inputs/outputs at this moment, but as my audio gear collection grows, I will find use for the additional connection types. It came with a USB-C to USB-C cable that has a USB-C to USB-A adapter attached to it. It also has a 3.5 mm to split mic and headphone connection in case you are using a headphone/IEM with an inline cable microphone. It does display the input data it receives from its source, so it did clue me in when I was streaming music at a lower quality than it was capable of decoding. There are 62 steps on the volume control, which I find to be a bit lackluster. I would like a 100 or more so that I can more finely tune the volume of it. At times, with the Dunu Mortise, I found myself adjusting volume between songs because one song would be too loud and then the next too quiet. Fosi provides some "preset" Bass/Treble EQ settings (Bass -2, Treble +2 as an example) for different games, but I find this to be unnecessary. EQing based on a game and not the listening device won't give you the best audio for that game unless you are using something like studio headphones that have a flat frequency response curve. Most consumer audio gear does not have a flat frequency response curve. I will say these EQs are a good starting point, though, and tweaking them slightly will help. Final notes. There is no audible noise floor on my unit, even with a 16 Ohm IEM. The buttons and dials do have a very nice tactile feel. It takes up a fair amount of desk space, so if you don't have a ton of room, I would look at the C3 instead. It has the option for UAC 1.0 and 2.0, so it can hook up to consoles like the Switch and PlayStation 4/5 (I did hook up my Switch to it, and it works). This is an easy recommendation for me to give, and I have really enjoyed using it for audio gear reviews.

I already own a few Fosi Audio products, including their IM4 IEMs, so I had a good idea this would be another solid piece of gear. The K7 has been a nice upgrade for my desktop setup. It is small, feels well made, and was simple to set up. I use it for music and gaming and it handles both really well. In games, the sound feels clearer and more open. Voices and effects stand out better and it is easier to pick up small details, especially in story driven games. It does not try to change the sound. It just gives my headphones a cleaner signal and more control than my computer ever did. Music also comes through with better clarity and a little more punch. There is no noise and it has plenty of power for the headphones I use every day. If you already like Fosi Audio products or just want something simple that improves both gaming and music without spending a lot, the K7 is a great choice. It does exactly what it should and feels like a good value.

The Fosi Audio K7 DAC Headphone Amp is an interesting piece of gear. It took me a little bit to figure out how to use it, but that could be user-error. I tend to be a bigger fan of things that are simple, plug-&-play, but the downside to that, often, is that the functionality isn't as diverse as this. Input Options: - There are 4 input options: - Bluetooth: I like this because it simplifies a lot of things for me when it comes to using it with my computer, but not everything I want to use it for have that capability. I don't feel like I lose any audio quality when using this input function. It comes with a Bluetooth antenna to help strengthen the signal quality and device reach. - Opt-in plug: I don't have much use for this option, but I know that those that spend more time gaming with different types of devices than me would see the real potential of this input type. - Coax-in: To me, this seems like a classic input style, especially when plugging straight into a gaming device like a PlayStation & X-Box, so I like that I have the option to use this. - USB-C: This will mostly be helpful for me for firmware updates. Output Options: - There are 3 output options: - Coax/RCA output: for sending your mic audio out to your device for communicating within your game. - 3.5mm jack: This one is pretty simple and self-explanatory, but it takes a headset/headphone with a mic attached and allows it to work to hear and communicate. - 4.4mm jack: I don't have much of a use for this yet, so I don't have much to say here. More technological gamers might, so check with them. Audio control: - I really like being able to adjust my personal mix (bass & treble), but you can bypass and get the unfiltered audio from your game, music or movie. - There are two huge control knobs: one for overall vol/gain adjustment & the other for specific audio mixing control & mic adjustment. - Both knobs you can click to get into more specific control functionality, which is nice for adjusting to my specific tastes/preferences. I like the device in its simplest form/functionality because I don't game much, but spend my life in content creation and music production. Whether you're a gamer or regular consumer in need of a headphone amp, I think you will like this and can find its specific functionality for your purposes, and it will meet that need.
