Game Builder Garage is a great first step in learning game design principles. While you won’t be making anything near advanced as you might in Sony and Media Molecule’s “Dreams,” let alone a stand alone game engine, this release is perfect for helping folks to learn the basics of what goes into making a video game. If you had the Labo VR set, you may remember a similar, but more limited, feature in it’s software set. This goes further with lessons in design, and features teh ability to make some small assets (such as various sprites) that one can use in their homemade games. Sharing games is very limited, given it’s Nintendo, but overall a great introduction to anyone interested in game design and wants a simple, guided experience to get their feet wet in the discipline.

Cannot wait to get further and learn more! I knew I’d like this game when they previewed it. I jumped in and played the tutorial and love it even more! Can’t wait to build my own game.

This is a really fun way to be introduced to the principles of programming, especially game programming. It walks you step-by-step through learning what you can do as you gradually make more complicated games. It’s excellent!

My son got this as a six year old and loved making his own video games and I acted as his game tester! He didn’t even know he was learning about coding!
