Bought to use when overlanding in my 4Runner. Paired it with my WiFi only iPad so I could receive a GPS signal for guidance. Also wanted to have an SOS function in case of emergencies. Messaging feature is great too.

TLDR: Love the device, Best Buy doesn't know what color they have in stock. Device is incredible, useful in multiple settings for me from camping, to sailing, to hopefully not punching out of my military aircraft... Long story short, the device is available in orange/black, red/black, and black/black. Best buy has only the red/black version currently listed on the website, they sent me the orange/black. It doesn't match my Jeep dash, woe is me.

Very happy with the unit, great battery, and very small and portable.

This device can be used when you have no cell phone coverage to tell you the weather. You just point to the sky and you will get an accurate weather since it downloads the satellites weather report. Great for hiking in the wilderness.

I am able to send/receive text message when I have no cell service. I have not tried the SOS feature and hope I don't have to use it. Screen is easy to read, but texting is cumbersome so using prebuilt text is best.

Although we have yet to really use this, we are most excited about the idea of being safe while in the back country hiking in Colorado! We are in the 65+ age group and recognize that we need to have contact with outside sources for the “in case” moments where cell phone fails....

Easy to use connected to my Pixel 3a. Comfort in knowing I will have communication with family in case of cellphone outages.

text can take up to minutes to go through, and doesn't easily link to phone if out of cell service

Hi Jaxon, the Inreach does not use the cellular networks to communicate but a network of satellites called Iridum. The delay you are experiencing is because they only come overhead about once every 5 minutes or so and you must have line of sight to the sky in order for your message to be sent.
Once the bluetooth pairing is complete you would not need to re-pair it again and your communication with functions, such as accessing your address book should be instantaneous

I was going to pull the trigger on this today, but I found out REI currently (2/4/22) sells the inreach mini 2. It has the USB C connector, better interface, and connectivity.
