Q: Are GE dehumidifiers made in the USA?
A: I just purchased this unit and the box says "Made in China". I have not been able to find one that is made in the USA. And honestly, GE moved even their light bulb factories overseas! I am totally behind Buy American, but it is nearly impossible. Hope companies come back here - i have confidence in the American worker and am willing to pay more for better products.
Q: does it have an adaptor for a hose to allowing draining into a shower or sink?
A: There is a nozzle for the attachment of a garden hose. Attach hose, cut to length, lead it to the drain - but it's meant for a floor drain, it would not have the ability to push the water upwards to a sink.
A: Jon. I bought this for my dad in his basement. It sounds like a similar situation yours. I havent had to use it personally but the manual says the light comes on after 250 running hours. After which the light will remind you to check/clean the filter. It doesn't say anything about it stopping the unit. However the bucket being full would stop the unit. It does according to the manual have a drain hose setup which could be used to a sump pump. It definitely ran good and pretty quiet. My dad has some hearing aids and he asked me if it was running and he was only in the other room in the basement. Seems like a good dehumidifier.
A: Yes it shuts off when it reaches its set humidity level but will kick back on when the humidity raises back up. Also shuts off when full.
A: I would not go anything over 4 feet in length. Run it into your sump pump, floor drain or into a condensate pump for water removal. It is just a simple female garden hose connector that you need.
Q: do you know how many square feet it covers?
A: This unit will cover a 1,000 sq ft room (max).
A: If you are just going to dump the water, consider adding a tiny amount of bleach after emptying it. This will keep it from getting gross. Maybe vinegar would work too, but I haven't tried it.
Q: doed this model have auto defrost
A: From the appliance booklet: Automatic Defrost: When frost builds up on the evaporator coils, the compressor will cycle off and the fan will continue to run until the frost disappears. When the coil is defrosted, the compressor or fan will automatically restart and dehumidifying will resume.
