A: Hi there, and thanks for these great questions! We appreciate your interest in this slide-in range, and we’re glad to advise. For simmering, we would suggest using the left rear, smallest burner (5,000 BTU) if possible; the tri-ring (left front) burner can also be used for simmering when you only activate the inner rings and keep the heat low. The dual purpose center burner has 9,5000 BTU and is ideal for small cookware (using the round burner) or a griddle (using both the oval and round burner sections); using it for simmering may also work, depending on your specific needs. Regarding using the unit in the event of power failure, the oven is inoperable and you shouldn’t attempt to use it. However, the surface burners can be lit with a match if necessary; using extreme caution, you can hold a lit match near the ports beneath the surface burner cap, then slowly turn the knob to the LITE position. They will operate normally after being lit. If it might be helpful, we have details on both the burners and what to do in the event of a power outage in the Use and Care manual; that can be viewed on our GE Appliances website when you look up the model number and go to the product page. Stove For a Great Cook
Sixty years of experience in the kitchen has given me enough confidence to judge this as a good stove. The arrangement of the burners is perfect. My previous cooktop was ten inches wider yet less functional. The air fryer function in the oven is new for me but I love learning new things. I have used it several times. That said, I can also testify that cleaning the oven is amazingly easy. I have not discovered anything to complain about with this stove. The storage drawer underneath is smaller than my previous stove but it doesn’t detract from all of the advantages. I am a happy cook.
