I received my ice maker and quickly set it up on my kitchen counter. The setup was simple and didn’t take long to go through the cleaning cycle. Immediately upon turning it on, the loud noise is obvious and you will not miss it. The reviews are correct on the noise. It’s not broken, it’s basically the machine making ice. It will make ice until it fills the ice bin or you turn it off. Now after setting it up, I left for about 4 hours or so.. when I came back it was filled with ice. I mean completely filled and the noise stopped because the ice bin was filled. I was amazed how fast it makes ice. I had an event with about 9 friends over and it didn’t run out of ice. So the noise is a little loud but the operation, great look, and of course the pellet ice makes it an appliance I will keep and love. A little on the pricey side but will recommend the product. The ice making noise is my only con but everything else is a plus. I love my ice maker and oh my god; I love the ice.

Got this for my husband as a Christmas gift. He is obsessed with beverages and ice. This is PERFECT! It makes ice quick and we don’t run out which is amazing. It is more compact than I was expecting it to be which is nice because we do not have a lot of counter space. I do wish I had gotten the side take but I can always add it on. It’s not hard to fill up and you can use the app which is a plus as well.

This ice maker is a GREAT time saver and makes entertaining easy. It never stops making perfect ice nuggets. I can always see how it is doing on the app and it is easy to clean. Whenever someone sees it and has the ice they say they want one too!

My wife and I absolutely love this ice machine. Easy to clean, easy to fill, and operate. The ice reminds me of Sonic ice. We love to chew on it, make tropical drinks, and also love bagging it up in gallon bags and giving it away to friends and family. We give it 5 stars, hands down

Excellent and highly recommend. It’s pricy but worth it. I will add it’s a bit noisy when it’s making the ice but we have gotten used to it and don’t mind as it makes pretty quickly. It’s plenty for our family’s daily use and we love the small nuggets !!!

As absurd as this next statement may sound I now understand what people mean when they speak about the "good ice". I won't bore you with all the detailed specs as you could read them on this page or on GE's website but as far as ease of use and speed of ice production, I give this an 11 out of 10 it is something I didn't know I needed so badly that now my family cannot live without.... I haven't quite figured out the best way to display it yet as I really didn't want it to be just sitting on my countertop, although it is aesthetically pleasing enough that if you have no other choice, it's not going to detract from your kitchen/bar area especially compared to other similar ice machine units from other manufacturers, this GE opal, especially in the black stainless steel color really knocks it out of the park and is the best looking unit. The only complaint I would have to give even though as far as I understand this is an issue with all home icemakers is the cleaning process. I literally dread this process and where I live in South Jersey we have it pretty easy water wise as I don't have to de-scale it at all, as there is no hard water build up in machine almost 6 months in. One thing I did notice is that even after just a couple days of use after cleaning it if you feel the bottom of the holding tank (i'm not talking about the extra side tank I'm talking about just the main holding tank under the ice tray) it feels a little too slimy for my comfortability, and I even rigged up the machine so that it runs off of my reverse osmosis system that is re-mineralized (as the reverse osmosis process removes even the healthy minerals) so as an added piece of mind, I purchased the extra filter you can get for like $18 on Amazon that goes in the bottom of that holding tank instead of that little stupid good for nothing square screen and since then I've been able to get away with about 3 to 4 weeks before I have to do a complete clean, which involves completely filling the main holding tank and draining it 3 to 4 times while running a cleaning cycle the first of which includes a teaspoon of just regular bleach. The whole process takes about 30 to 40 minutes and it is not really that bad it's just more of an annoyance, but I'll deal with that small annoyance for the availability of great tasting fresh ice whenever I want it. I find myself drinking than usual and I do not regret this purchase one bit. also, I should mention that this is my second unit as the first unit I purchased broke about five months in and replaced it. No problem after I allowed them to put a $400 hold on my credit card to ensure that I sent back my old malfunctioning unit but since then it has been smooth sailing. This is my SECOND Opal ice maker — aka GE nugget ice maker. I did lots of research to get the good (most) and the worst (a few) reviews. But I chose this unit because it is SOLID —- and sturdy. The first model did develop a bit of a loud churning sound by the second year. This new GE version has been notably quieter. I recommend getting the one with a side tank — ‘cause this produces baby nuggets faster than chickens produce eggs. The drawer is sturdy. Did I mention the unit is heavy . . . Not easily moved — so find a place to keep it for as long as needed. I can’t use on a counter since my cabinets were crafted in the 1930s before standardized sized cupboards, so I use a side table that holds both main unit and side tank. I wish I ordered the side tank. I am able to use the original side tank — knocked it over, glued it. And ordered an additional side tank to keep on hand. OH so nice ICE! There are less expensive models of nugget ice makers, but I wasn’t willing to take a chance on the “imitation” since this is was powerful, dependable model. AND — use bottled water or distilled water in conjunction with your tap water, because calcium WILL form and make the ice maker require more cleaning —- and it may not work properly. Buy this and finally chew ice with ease!

Perfect little ICE machine! We always have fresh ice, and the little nuggets are prefect for any cool drink: iced coffee, sparking water, margaritas! Love the way it always is replenished with fresh ice when you need it. The ice melts very slowly and drains down and is then recycled back to new ice again. We use reverse osmosis water to fill it, so hardly any build up of sediment.

Love Love Love my new ice machine. My daughter and her husband have one and I would always bring ice home for me from their house. Not to mention all the times I went to Chick Fil A to get a refill of ice and water ! My husband is very happy with it also ! Not as happy as me !

I will just say i n c r e d i b l e nugget ice. You wont regret buying. My husband surprised me with this bad boy on Mothers Day ! Spoiled -yes maybe. However i have super sensitive teeth regular ice is to hard for me to eat. I always told him i wanted sonic ice. Now i have it in my own kitchen . The ice stays frozen . The remake of the ice is quick you will be eating that soft , cold , nugget ice in no time - if you buy it.

I have been wanting one of these forever and my husband bought it for me for Christmas. I absolutely love it! I love eating ice and this ice is the BEST! So far the machine is working as it should. You get out ice and it begins making more, so it’s always readily available when I want it. It also comes with a little ice scoop. I’m very pleased with this purchase!

I Absolutely Love my GE profile ice maker. It makes nugget ice, which is absolutely amazing. I Rate it a 10 out of 10. It's a great for parties, gathering, even the office. I certainly recommended it.

This is the best ice maker! Quiet! A workhouse. The UV light if you leave it on helps keep bacteria at bay. This one is way better than the 1st gen model or the new generation model.

4 stars because it makes a horrific sound when the gears start to freeze. Otherwise best ice machine hands down I am obsessed with nuggets ice now and can’t see my life without it.

I am 72-year-old widow, who has purchased several items from Best Buy through the years. From televisions, tablets, gaming systems, etc. the best purchase that I ever made was GE opal icemaker. It may sound silly, but I love using it every single day. Last year my children gifted me the side tank, which made me even happier! Fortunately, I had the extended warranty when recently my icemaker stopped working. I took it to the store and within minutes I had a brand new icemaker. Thank you Best Buy for making this old lady happy !

Had the previous edition which gave us issues so upgraded to this one and so far so good.

Ice maker works great! Having the big water reservoir is a must. Ice cubes are on the smaller size and are perfect for scooping into water jugs or just glasses.

Perfect! Would definitely recommend spending the extra money to get this ice maker you won’t be disappointed
