I never opened the box. I had a 6,000BTU air conditioner that was almost big enough. A larger GE had good ratings but it was out of stock everywhere. Best Buy listed this 8,000 refurbished one so I ordered it. When FedEx dropped it off, it had two BTU ratings, the 8,000 rating in lab conditions and a 5,500 rating in the real world. I went back on line, and when I looked carefully, I could see the second rating, but it didn't show up on the original page I looked at. Instead of getting a larger unit, I had inadvertently ordered a smaller unit. I went to Home Depot's site and they list their air conditioners by the real life number instead of an inflated lab number. I could have saved the trouble by diving deeper, but why couldn't Best Buy use real life figures in the first place like Home Depot. Guess where I bought my AC that I am keeping. The product may be good, but I never opened the box
