Customer Ratings & Reviews

I’ve had this laptop for months now and I thought I’d finally give it a review. Overall for the price point the specs are pretty good, it gets the job done with most games and only begins to hiccup a bit on the extremely intensive games but it’s nothing bad, if you understand the specs then you know what you’re getting yourself into. The keyboard is nice and clicky and the trackpad is sturdy. I like that it has a lot of ports on the sides of the laptop, however I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I wish it had a little more. It charges extremely quickly so if it’s ever getting low as long as you have its charger, you should be good. The Gigabyte software is pretty flexible which I appreciate since I didn’t know much about this brand going into this laptop. The screen is nice and bright too. It has 32GB of RAM with I’m pretty sure 7-8GB of V-RAM so it can manage a lot of things at once, and it hasn't had an issue where it’s gotten completely full. The intel chip is also pretty decent, nothing all that noteworthy about it. The 5060 graphics card from NVIDIA is also quite solid and makes a lot of games look and run well if you tune things appropriately. The amount of storage is nice too given it’s 1TB. Alright time for the not so good stuff I’ve noticed: The laptop gets quite hot when running a lot of games. It isn’t anything too unmanageable and so far it hasn’t overheated but the body sometimes gets painfully hot when you touch the part near the bottom of the screen and the keyboard itself can get a bit warm. The fans can also get extremely loud when running intensive games so unless you're wearing headphones or something, you better crank up that volume to drown out the sound since it’s very noticeable and fairly annoying. The screen itself has got a lot of tiny little scratches on it and it’s really bugged me. It’s happened both times I’ve ordered this laptop since yes I had to send it back and get a replacement at first since I saw the scratches and I don’t know why. I don’t think it has to do with me but maybe the way I wiped the screen to clean it might’ve caused it, I don’t know exactly (I used a microfiber cloth so I don’t think it’s me?), just something to keep in mind. Maybe get a screen protector or something lol. While I did say the software of the computer is pretty flexible, the way it integrates with NIVIDIA and Windows is pretty tedious, sometimes the settings of each of them clash with each other and either makes things not save when I change something or it slows down my computer until I’m made sure everything is fully updated and stable. Sometimes just in general when I want to make a change to something software-wise it just doesn’t work at first or is buggy for a second. When I had to initially boot the computer up, I spent a couple hours getting Windows up to speed with updates and whatnot, it was pretty time-consuming. The built-in speakers of the laptop are just fine (like a 6/10), it isn’t anything bad but they aren’t all that remarkable, I’ve definitely heard better laptop speakers than this. The webcam quality is also just okay, nothing bad but nothing great either. And lastly what I want to mention in this section is the battery life: this laptop’s battery is kinda mid. I’ve already configured it in some ways so it lasts a bit longer but the battery drains fairly fast in my opinion when unplugged. If you’re not doing anything intensive then it does last a decent bit but the second it has to start chugging, the battery goes down faster. Now when it is plugged in, the battery really isn’t an issue at all but since this is a laptop I feel like the experience of using it unplugged should be smoother. Alright I know the cons section was way longer than the pros section but overall the laptop is good. It’s my first real powerful computer and I’ve been able to do a lot with it so far which I like. It obviously isn’t reinventing the wheel but if you’re looking for a good gaming laptop for its price, this one is something you could go for. Although I’d maybe wait till it’s on sale since that’s when I got it. And as a word of advice: if you’re contemplating whether to get a gaming desktop or a gaming laptop, ask yourself if you really care about the portability. For me personally I think portability is something I want as of this moment but I could definitely see a scenario where I’d get a desktop computer with similar specs to this. Getting a desktop would probably eliminate a bunch of my criticisms too like the screen, battery, and fan noise, but if you do want that ease of use then it works. You could even go with a dual set up where you have a super powerful gaming desktop and a not so powerful work related laptop, just food for thought. I do wonder how long this thing is gonna last me but for now it’s getting the job done and I’d recommend it to those who are fine giving it a go even with all that I said!

It works incredibly, and it has amazing specs for its price. Would totally recommend!!!! P.S. if anyone is wondering, to turn of the keyboard lights you press Fn + Space

This laptop runs so well i been playing a lot of games on high quality and i could so my work without issues and for it's price it's extremely worth the value per dollar you get. The design is sleek but still cool also opening it up is fairly simple so you can easily clean it and the face id works so well overall i believe it's the best value per dollar you can get.

I got this for my wife, she has been enjoying the laptop thus far. We havent seen much issues with it. Its capable of doing photoshop and playing the games that she likes. There is one downside, but it may not affect other people. The laptops on board networking card appears to have issues connecting to a network that uses a cellular network. I have starlink and t mobile 5g home internet. The laptops onboard card works well with starlink, but refused to work on the 5g home internet. I believe maybe this could be something to do with ipv6 potentially. I did troubleshooting and narrowed it down to the onboard card because we were able to buy a netgear usb wifi, and it was able to access the network without issues on both networks. It was relatively easy to fix, not a super big deal especially since everything else is flawless. But i figured i would mention it.

I frankly don't know much about computers, laptops or specs, but after asking regarding specs... I was recommended this laptop thanks to an employee. I did not seek a laptop like this for the sole purpose of gaming, but it was definitely an option and while I do play only one videogame on the PC what I was looking forward too most with a laptop like this was whether or not it would be capable of handling Blender, Modeling, Photoshop, Photopea etc. And it does actually handle them just fine! In fact playing games videogames on the laptop feels great to do so too! So much so I can even enjoy writing again! So in general this laptop is just great. Alongside the cooling. I played for hours at a time and did not feel the laptop get hot. Though that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider getting a laptop cooler! Which I may for the future.

This is a great deal, ran gta 5 enhanced, Fortnite, warzone and rocket league on all max settings and no stuttering and it’s very smooth. There’s absolutely no issues with it so far I’ve been using it for 2 weeks now.

I bought this laptop specifically to play Borderlands 4, and it runs amazingly at >200 fps on high settings! This was a great buy for the price and specs. Can’t wait to play other games on this laptop.

Introduction: The GIGABYTE A16 is first and foremost a gaming laptop packing a 13th Gen Intel i7-13620H, boasting 10 cores @ 4.9GHz. Just as impressive is its 2xSODIMM 32GB DDR5 RAM @ 5600MHz, but you’ll also find a modest GIGABYTE 1TB SSD. The battery is a nice 76Wh allowing for up to 14 hours of runtime. The display is a 16” 1920x1200 IPS panel @165Hz. Finally, to complement all this is NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Mobile. Main Takeaways: Today’s gaming hardware manufacturers are driving improved battery life and heat reduction provided by lower TDPs for both CPU and GPU. And just for reference, an apples-to-apples performance comparison of the 5060 and 4070 laptop variants put them as very comparable, but giving the upper hand to the 5060 for more efficient power consumption. The A16 mainly suits casual gamers who want that power to do some gaming, but also be able to run productivity apps. Look and Feel: The GiGABYTE A16 is most definitely a gaming laptop. By the look and feel alone, it isn’t a laptop that you would normally carry around due to its heft, in my opinion. The base of the clamshell is about a half inch longer in the rear than the 16” screen itself; this is to allow more room for hardware and cooling. Also, once opened, you will find a very very large touchpad, which is both welcoming in terms of normal productivity as well as a very very large palm rest. The keyboard itself is also just as satisfying to type on. It’s definitely not mechanical, but it isn’t bad to type on either. Peripherals: HDMI2.1, USB-A Gen1, USB-C Gen1 with DP1.4 and PD 3.0, nice), Wi-Fi 6E Cooling: GIGABYTE calls its cooling design the “3D Vortx”. What that essentially means is that air enters from underneath the laptop using two fans and provides cooling to both the hardware as well as the keyboard itself, which is pretty cool. The idea here is to keep the touch areas cool so that you're comfortable while gaming. In my testing, the keys were warm to the touch, but nothing uncomfortable. As you get closer to the function keys, there is a drastic change in temperature, so the cooling design definitely is working here. Air is escalated through the sides and rear; I think I was more bothered about the exiting heat hitting my right hand while using the mouse. During gaming sessions, the fans remain relatively quiet. Performance: Honestly, a 16” WUXGA IPS display @ 165Hz being driven by a 5060 with 8GB VRAM is probably a sweet spot for gaming. The A16 is exactly this and from a gaming perspective it does not disappoint. NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 definitely does a lot of weightlifting here when it comes to driving FPS and maintaining quality. Just to cut to the chase, here are some games and benchmarks I ran: 3DMark Score - 9872, 61W CLK 2197MHz(GPU), 11001MHz(VRAM) Shadow of the Tomb Raider: 78FPS @ Ultra Settings CLK 2133MHz(GPU), 9001MHz(VRAM), 51W DLSS Quality Horizon Zero Dawn - 78FPS @ Ultra Settings CLK 2133MHz(GPU), 9001MHz(VRAM), 51W DLSS Quality Sound quality is decent for a laptop. It’s not tinny or flat. Drivers exit the body facing down and bounce off the surface to aid in giving you that full sound. Battery Longevity: The A16 comes with an Integrated GPU for non-gaming applications. This allows for battery conservation, keeping the 5060 asleep but ready when it needs to tag-team the iGPU out. This is pretty much a standard practice among laptops with two GPUs. When it detects it’s under battery use, the GPU will switch from discrete to integrated. The screen will also dim its brightness and reduce the refresh rate from 165Hz down to 60Hz. I tried gaming under these conditions…and obviously it was not good. Understandably so. Battery life is always subjective depending on what you’re doing, but I can say that this laptop does perform very well, going for at least 8-9 hours before I start to panic charge. This is a mixture of web browsing, productivity and streaming videos. Upgradeability: Opening the “case” requires removing 11 philip screws, then carefully prying off the bottom panel. It is a snap-on panel and will require a bit of force to remove, but once removed, accessibility to components are easy. There are two SODIMM slots for DDR5 RAM, both of which are occupied with 16GB. There are also two m.2 slots for NVMe, one of which is currently being used and an unused slot for additional drives. Finally, there is the battery itself that can be easily removed and replaced with the time comes. Portability: This isn’t the smallest of laptops, but I was able to take it with me on a personal trip. It had no problem fitting in my laptop backpack, which is able to fit up to a 15.6” laptop. It is close to 5lbs in weight, which in today’s standards is a bit much, but it didn’t bother me as I moved through the airport terminals and on and off the plane. Conclusion: The GIGABYTE GAMING A16 is a good hybrid between gaming and productivity. I do feel that due to its size, it may be one of those laptops that stays put and acts a carry-around-the-house kind of device as opposed to carry around everywhere like an ultra-lightweight or a tablet. It performs gaming pretty well and, when not gaming, provides a very usable keyboard and complementing touchpad for ease of use.

The computer itself is good, though I had some problems setting it up at first because certain driver and Windows updates weren’t downloading. I contacted Gigabyte support, but it took almost two weeks to get a response—fortunately, the issue ended up resolving itself. In the photo you will see the first laptop I got before the replacement. The delivery experience, however, was frustrating. The first laptop I received was completely broken. When I went back to Best Buy, they initially tried to say it was my fault and that they needed to decide whether or not to replace it, which I thought was unreasonable. After about an hour, they finally agreed to replace it, but I had to wait another week. Since I had already waited a week for the original order, it ended up taking about two weeks just to get a working computer.

The GIGABYTE GAMING A16 in Black Steel is a well-rounded mid-range gaming laptop that punches above its price in several key areas while making some noticeable compromises. This specific configuration—Intel Core i7-13620H, GeForce RTX 5060, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and 1TB SSD—stands out as one of the more sensible setups in the lineup. The 16-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) 165Hz IPS panel is a smart pairing for the hardware. The 16:10 aspect ratio gives extra vertical space that feels useful for both gaming and everyday work, and the high refresh rate keeps competitive titles and fast-paced gameplay feeling smooth. Brightness sits around 300 nits and color coverage is average rather than vibrant, so it’s not a content-creation panel, but it does the job cleanly for gaming and general use. Performance is solid at 1200p. The RTX 5060 (running at a relatively modest ~85W TGP) handles modern titles well, especially when you lean on DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation. Expect strong frame rates in esports and well-optimized AAA games, with more demanding titles remaining very playable once upscaling and frame generation are enabled. The i7-13620H is a previous-generation chip, so it’s not the absolute fastest CPU available, but it doesn’t hold the GPU back in most gaming scenarios and still handles multitasking, streaming, and productivity tasks without issue. The 32GB of dual-channel DDR5 and 1TB SSD are excellent inclusions—plenty of headroom for the next few years, with room to expand further if needed. Build quality is plastic but reasonably rigid for the class, and the Black Steel finish looks sharper than many budget gaming designs. At roughly 2.2 kg (about 4.85 lbs) and relatively slim, it’s more portable than most 16-inch gaming laptops. Cooling is effective under load, thermals stay controlled, and battery life is a pleasant surprise for the category—often reaching 7–8 hours of light use thanks to the 76Wh battery. Drawbacks are clear: the limited GPU power means it trails higher-TGP RTX 5060 machines in raw performance, the display is functional rather than premium, and the aging CPU leaves some performance on the table compared with newer alternatives. Still, for the money, this configuration delivers a capable, relatively portable gaming experience with future-proof RAM and storage. Verdict: A strong value pick if you want a capable 16-inch gaming laptop with modern RTX 50-series features, high RAM, and decent portability without overspending. Great for 1200p gaming and everyday use; just don’t expect desktop-replacement levels of GPU power or a premium screen.

I've been using the Gigabyte Gaming A16 with the Intel Core i7-13620H, RTX 5060, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and 1TB SSD, and I've been very impressed with its performance. The laptop handles modern games smoothly at high settings, and the 165Hz display makes gameplay feel incredibly responsive. The 32GB of RAM is a huge advantage for multitasking, gaming, streaming, and content creation. Loading times are fast thanks to the 1TB SSD, and the system feels snappy whether I'm gaming or working on everyday tasks. The build quality is solid for the price, and the keyboard is comfortable for long gaming sessions. The cooling system does a good job keeping temperatures under control, although the fans can get a bit loud when playing demanding games. That's probably my biggest complaint, but it's a common tradeoff with gaming laptops. Battery life is decent for regular use, but like most gaming laptops, you'll want to keep it plugged in for the best gaming performance. Overall, this is an excellent value if you're looking for a powerful gaming laptop without spending premium gaming laptop money. The combination of the RTX 5060, i7 processor, 32GB RAM, and 165Hz display makes it a fantastic choice for gamers, students, and anyone who needs strong performance in a portable package. I would definitely recommend it.

I couldn’t be happier with the GIGABYTE Gaming A16. The 16" 165Hz WUXGA display is stunning — smooth gameplay, crisp visuals, and vibrant colors whether I’m gaming or working. The Intel i7-13620H paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM makes multitasking effortless, and the 1TB SSD gives me plenty of space with lightning-fast load times. The star of the show is the RTX 5060 GPU — it handles modern games beautifully on high settings without breaking a sweat. Even with heavy use, the cooling system does its job well, and I don’t notice throttling. Build quality feels solid with the sleek black steel design, and the keyboard is responsive and comfortable for long sessions. Battery life is solid for such a powerful machine, and setup was seamless right out of the box. Overall, this is the best combination of power, speed, and style I’ve found at this price point. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable gaming laptop that can double as a productivity powerhouse.

I have found myself learning towards gaming laptops instead of gaming PC's as it has become easier to game on the go. Due to always traveling, I would pull out the laptop to play some AAA games during the downtimes waiting for flights. I wanted to try out this Gigabyte gaming laptop as I was very impressed with the specs that I saw. I am very glad that I got this laptop. It comes with such great specs that I have been able to play every AAA game that I own on Steam without issues. The setup was not hard at all, however it does take time to perform all the software updates. Speaking of software, luckily there is not a lot of bloat ware on here. The Gigabyte laptop comes with a GiMATE software to optimize your laptop with how you are going to use it. So far the software seems to be ok, it provides great stats of the CPU , Memory and SSD and leaving it on the gaming settings I have not seen any bogging down. Speaking of SSD , the read / writes are very fast being able to download / install those large games. I am also very glad to see the laptop comes with 32GB of RAM. With Windows being such a memory hog, nowadays 32GB is the minimum with the preferred being 64. The Wi-Fi card is 802.11ax so it can connect to some high-speed wireless without issues. The monitor was very impressive to me, its very clear, easy to read text along with great picture quality when it comes to gaming. Also a very interesting feature is the monitor can lean all the way back flat. Speaking of the physical laptop, its made very sturdy and I always feel it will be safe to travel with. Overall I recommend this gaming laptop for anyone who wishes to game on the go!

The Gigabyte Gaming A16 is built for gamers, plain and simple. Gigabyte focuses on the specs and features that gamers want most starting with cooling and keeping temps well below 80 degrees even during intense gaming sessions. The laptop also has a more classic, simple design with a matte finish and a subtle Gigabyte logo, so it’s not flashy or covered in RGB lights. Basically, it’s all about giving gamers what they need and cutting back in areas that aren't as critical. One big surprise here is the cooling. Temps sat under 70 consistently, very impressive. * Unboxing and Design * When it comes to unboxing the Gigabyte A16, the packaging is simple and eco-friendly, with minimal plastic and mostly cardboard to protect the device. Inside, you’ll find the essentials: the laptop, a power cord, a quick start guide, and warranty information. In terms of design and build, the A16 looks classy and professional. It weighs around five pounds and has a fairly slim profile. The matte finish not only gives it a smooth look but also helps resist fingerprints. There’s minimal keyboard flex, the hinges feel sturdy, and overall, it feels solid and well-built. While the chassis is likely made from hard plastic, it definitely looks and feels premium enough for serious gamers. * Specs and Features* The A16 comes equipped with an Intel Core i7-13620H processor from the Raptor Lake series at 45 watts. There's a Gigabyte motherboard with 32GB of DDR5-5200 RAM, upgradeable to 64GB. The NVIDIA RTX 5060 GPU with 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, DLSS4, and 85-watt TGP give it excellent gaming performance while staying efficient and cool. Storage includes a Gen4 1TB Gigabye NVMe SSD with an additional slot that allows expansion up to 4TB. Audio is handled by dual two-watt stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, which produce impressive sound quality for this category. For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 6E and includes an RJ45 port if you want to hook up a network cable. The display is a 1920 by 1200 IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, great for gaming and fast moving FPS shooters. At 300 nits, it’s bright enough for indoor use and reasonable outdoor use. It also has impressive viewing angles which I would attribute to the IPS panel. While the 720p webcam lacks a physical shutter, Gigabyte includes AI privacy protection features that detect when you walk away and can automatically lock the system. The A16 also includes Advanced Optimus for easy GPU switching and a MUX switch that gives you direct access to the dedicated GPU when needed. The 76-watt-hour battery supports up to over 10 hours of use under light loads, and real-world performance is more likely closer to 8 hours for light tasks or 2 to 3 for gaming. If you run out of battery, a 30 minute charge will get you back to 50%. Gigabyte’s G-Mate software adds a lot of value. It allows you to monitor system performance, manage RGB lighting, switch power modes, and even create a bootable recovery drive. There are also features for audio enhancements, camera privacy, and network control—all in one convenient place. * Gigabyte GiMate Software* The G-Mate software offers a ton of customization and control for the Gigabyte Gaming A16. The keyboard features single-zone RGB lighting with different modes like static, pulse, and cycle, allowing you to customize brightness and color transitions. On the home screen, you can monitor your CPU, GPU, and RAM usage, including temperatures and fan speeds. The software also includes different power modes, such as full capacity, 80%, or 60% charging to extend battery life. There's a Smart USB Backup feature to create a bootable recovery drive, and you can manage network connections, update drivers, and set different performance modes like gaming, creator, power saving, or even online meeting mode. The software also includes AI features for audio enhancements, and camera privacy making it a great tool for gaming and productivity. * Performance * When it comes to performance, the Gigabyte A16 performs admirably. In Cinebench R23, it pulled a multi-core score of 14,477. In the Time Spy benchmark, it scored 11,213, with a graphics score of 10,968 and a CPU score of 12,839. On Steel Nomad, it scored 2,324. Thermals are another strong point. Even during intense gaming sessions, CPU and GPU temps stayed under 70 degrees Celsius. The Windforce cooling system, with its vapor chamber, keeps things cool and the keyboard surface comfortable. You won't really notice any kind of heat on any part of the chassis which is impressive. Fan noise picks up under load but stays reasonable, and most gamers wear headphones anyway. The keyboard and trackpad also perform really well. The keyboard has 1.7 millimeters of travel and feels comfortable with adequate response. It’s well spaced, easy to type on, and has a single-zone RGB backlight that’s effective, especially in low light. The large trackpad is smooth and accurate. Audio performance is a nice surprise. The front-firing or bottom-front speakers get loud, have solid bass, and are great for everything from video calls and movies to music and gaming. They’re definitely a step up from what you might expect at this price point. * Pros * Excellent 1080p gaming performance 32 GB Memory Solid build and design Comfortable keyboard and large trackpad MUX switch with Advanced Optimus Upgrade-friendly with dual RAM and dual M.2 SSD slots Cooling is exceptional * Suggestions/Needs Improvement * Battery life is average Single-zone RGB backlight 720p webcam No SD card slot No Thunderbolt or HDR support The A16 delivers a perfect balance of performance, features, and build quality. Everything about this machine is geared toward gaming. It’s got an excellent CPU, tons of memory, it performs well, and it cools well. The gaming performance, the display quality, and the overall experience make this an exceptional option in the mid-range gaming laptop category. It’s a great choice for students, professionals, and gamers or those like me that do a little bit of everything. Highly Recommended.

Good cooling but i also use a laptop cooling pad... Light and easy to carry arpund and definitely a powerhouse. Only thing bad is after i did a bios updatr im not able to use gigabyte software which is still something you can work around

The A16 is a middle of the pack gaming laptop that is excellent for someone that is a casual gamer and wants something that allows for upgradability. Screen: The screen on the A16 has its highs and lows, its got a nice 165 refresh rate so you get smooth visuals and very little motion blur. The screen also utilizes dynamic refresh rate so it can go from 30 Htz- 165 when needed. I was surprised at how good the contrast was, the colors looked great. The contrast is so good that it makes up for lack of brightness in the panel. Built: The plastic built reduces the weight of the laptop, and means much better Wi-Fi connection and doesn’t feel as hot compared to aluminum built laptops. Doing normal task you will not hear the fans, Gigabyte windforce cooling works great, this is one of the few windows laptops that doesn’t sound like a jet engine when doing a windows update. All gaming laptops get hot when doing intensive task and this applies to the A16 (60-65c when running high demanding games), what was impressive was how fast the windforce cooling worked to drop temps once the game was closed. Hardware/Software: With 32 GB of ram this thing can handle anything that you throw at it without a hiccup. I had no issues playing games, editing videos, casual browsing or doing office work. You can also UPGRADE the RAM , SSD, Wi-Fi card which is amazing. The 5060 GPU can handle a lot of games easily (even though the power is capped). This GPU is just going to get better with time as drivers are optimized, while playing expedition 33 I was averaging 80 FPS. I was able to play all the games I wanted on it without an issue (yes I did have to turn down setting on some games due to the VRAM). I did notice that when outputting to an external monitor through the USB c the framerates and overall game play did take a hit, however this is a given as I was outputting to a 5k 240 Htz monitor. This did not happen when using the HDMI port to an external monitor. The camera on the laptop is not good, the images are blurry/grainy for video calls. The AI software is in its infancy, I do like that GiMate runs locally and with the amount of ram and ability to expand AI workload should not be an issue. AI features such as AI privacy which dims the screen once you walk away or locks the screen if someone is trying to pep at your computer work perfectly and im excited to see whats up coming. Ports: The port selection are wonderful for the A16, I can appreciate having all the port however I do wish the type C wasn’t limited, if you force use the Nvidia GPU while charging through the C port its not enough to keep the laptop charged. Another issue I noticed with the USB C port is that it's on the same side as the DC charging port, had this been on the other side you could charge the laptop from either side. Keyboard/Trackpad: The A16 has great feeling keys, the travel is perfect and the keys are bit bigger than usual. There is also a slight curve to the keys that gives you a great typing experience so you can work/play for hours without issue. The trackpad is huge and is one of the best non-capacitive trackpads I have used. Battery life: Now this is where the laptop misses its mark, it is rated at up to 14 hours but I was not able to get to that figure at all. I did some video playback test on 35% brightness and was able to get 6.5 hours of use. That increased by over an hour and half when doing office task which isn’t bad. One area where the A16 does really well is the standby time, it would only lose about 7% battery when not in use over the course of 17 hours. The A16 is a decent gaming laptop which can do just about anything 90% of people will need/want. The responsive screen, upgradability, keyboard, trackpad and the GPU make this a good pick if your in the market.

Out of the box it looked like a pretty nice gaming laptop. Thinner and lighter than the previous gamers I’ve reviewed. The screen looks good and the keyboard really feels good. Build quality feels pretty good too. However, it appears to be an all plastic build. I researched Gigabyte’s site about it, and they do not specify. Read on to see if it’s plastic fantastic and if I think it’s worth your money. It comes in an eco friendly cardboard box with cardboard spacers for packing on every side but the top. That concerned me since it was shipped to me like that. I can’t think of any laptop I’ve ever had shipped to me to review that wasn’t shipped in another box with some padding for extra protection. Fortunately, the carrier didn’t beat the box up and it was fine. Typical Windows 11 Home setup until it came to downloading updates. That took a long time it got hung up twice and timed out before it moved on to Windows desktop. After that I checked for updates, and I had to have it download and install them from there. That proceeded without any problems. Until the next update, and it hung up at 81% for over an hour. After all of that, the computer has run perfect with no problems. CPU: Intel Core i7-13620H laptop CPU. It has a total of 10 cores, 6 performance cores with 2 threads each and 4 efficiency core that are single thread, and a maximum clock speed of 4.9 GHz. It was introduced the first quarter of 2023. GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of DDR 7 memory. This GPU was introduced this spring. MUX switch for switching between integrated GPU on the processor and the RTX 5060. For those that may not know why a MUX switch is a good thing, it’s great for switching to the CPU’s GPU and extending battery life for general use and directly to the RTX 5060 when running games. RAM and Storage: 32GB of Crucial DDR 5 RAM running at 5200 Mhz. (max speed supported) Expandable to 64 GB. 1 TB Gigabyte AG450E1024-SI SSD. Expandable to 4TB. The WiFi module uses the other M2 slot. See photo. Screen quality: The IPS screen looks good. Nice contrast and color saturation. However, when I put my Datacolor SpyderX Pro on it to calibrate it, it reported a 66% sRGB color gamut. I was surprised. I didn’t expect a 6 bit per color channel screen on this nice of a gaming laptop. So, I pulled Device Manager and found out who makes the screen. It’s made by BOE and the model is NE160WUM-NX6. The manufacturer specs the panel at 68% sRGB, 16.7 million colors (8 bit),300 nits, 1200:1 contrast ratio, 165 hz refresh and the panel was introduced 11-25-2022 and last updated 9-18-2024. You can Google the manufacturer and model for more info on the panel. Did they “cheap out” on the screen? I don’t know. I don’t think it will be problem for gaming and general use, but not good choice for creatives that buy gaming laptops for speed and need better color accuracy, say at least 99% sRGB. If you plan on using the laptop with a monitor that has higher color depth, then it’s less of an issue. In fact, I have another gaming laptop that I use with a 34 inch wide Samsung monitor pretty much exclusively. Also, I do like that the screen folds back 180 and flexing is minimal for an all plastic build. Keyboard: I really like the feel of the keyboard. Very tactile and responsive. I guess the “golden curve” is the very slight sculpting the keys have. The lettering on the keys is large enough to be easily read in good lighting when the backlighting is off. But most of the time you’ll want to light them up. They look great when illuminated, showing not just the letter and such, but the layout. You can select the color, static or cycling, no zones or individual RGB per key. Camera, mic and speaker quality: Gigabyte says it’s FHD camera with a mic array. It will get the job done for videos and photos, but pretty basic. Low light performance wasn’t too bad. It works great with Windows Hello. Audio was so low I could barely hear it. I checked the mic gain and volume level for play back and recorded some video again. Same result. Not muffled, clear, but very low volume. As for playing music or YouTube videos, the audio is much louder, like expected. The sound is quality isn’t bad. It’s not harsh or muddy, but not on the same page as an Asus Zenbook S14 I reviewed a few months ago. But that little slim laptop has 4 speakers and is twice as loud. I think the A16 should be able to get louder than it does. Other Items to Note: WiFi 6E, 76 watt hour lithium polymer battery, 150 watt power brick with a non-right angle coaxial plug that goes into the side of the PC. Lacks SD or MicroSD card reader. Please see specs in the product description above for everything else. Performance: I felt like it did pretty good for hardware in it. A 2+ year old CPU paired with a new GPU helps. However, there are other options out there that outperform this laptop for not much more money. The fans were extremely quiet compared to all other gaming laptops I’ve reviewed as well as others that are not gaming. See my comparison to my Acer Helios on down. Performance Benchmarks: Cinebench: CPU Multi Core: 14,329 Single Core 1793 MP Ratio: 7.99 Geekbench CPU: Multi Core: 13094 Single Core: 2539 Geekbench GPU: 95469 Compared to an Acer Helios I reviewed last year: Acer - Predator Helios Neo 16” WUXGA IPS Gaming Laptop- Intel Core i9-14900HX- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060-16GB DDR5 (upgraded to 32GB) RAM-1TB SSD Cinebench: CPU: Multi Core: 25,867 Single Core:2207 MP ratio: 11.4 Geekbench CPU: Multi Core: 17,589 Single Core:3068 Geekbench GPU 103071 Please see photos for Crystaldisk memory speed test, SpyderX pro color test and FLIR thermal camera photos. Build Quality: It feels and looks well made. No creaking, no mushy keyboard and little flexing on the screen. However, when I laid the laptop back on its screen to get a thermal camera shot of the bottom of it, the fan on the right side started hitting something. The farther back I went, the worse it got. Like it was hitting something dangling, briefly knocking it out of the way and again when it fell back. I took the bottom off to see what it might be. Tape, a wire, a piece of plastic knocked loose. I never found anything. Everything looked fine and well put together. Motors felt fine with no slop in their bearings. Conclusion: I think it’s a good gaming laptop and performs as well as the hardware in it can deliver. One of the quietest fans in any of the laptops I’ve reviewed the past 7.5 years. I was disappointed on the color gamut of the screen only testing at 66% sRGB, but it still looks good. The speakers and audio are a weak spot as well as the mic for the camera. I think this gaming laptop should cost a few hundred less for what you get. Maybe the tariffs have something to do with the price? For a couple of hundred more, you can get that Acer Helios I compare this to which gives you a lot more performance, a 400 nits screen with 165 hz refresh, 99% sRGB color gamut, a keyboard with a numeric pad and 4 RGB color zones. But the Acer’s fans are pretty noisy, and it has half the RAM. Remember, Best Buy sells them both.

The GIGABYTE Gaming A16 provides a streamlined, minimalist unboxing experience. Right out of the box, you're greeted by simplicity, a neatly packaged laptop in a sleek black cloth slip without unnecessary frills. Initial setup, however, reveals some challenges. The initial Windows update and setup were notably sluggish, lasting several hours and frequently appearing frozen. This may be an uncommon experience among users. I was not able to localize and identify the culprit in the amount of time allotted to review this unit, but the issue was noticeable. Additionally, the pre-installed GiMATE software, designed to enhance performance through AI-assisted options, proved to be more hindrance than help initially. The default settings lean towards balanced power delivery, causing noticeable delays and occasional freezing due to frequent dGPU switching. Turning off these balanced options within GiMATE is necessary to achieve expected gaming performance. In practical use, GiMATE's AI-assisted features, such as voice-activated power settings, are intriguing but feel unrefined. The voice commands, though innovative, often seem slower and less reliable than manually adjusting settings through the application interface. Performance-wise, once optimized, the Gaming A16 shines. Benchmarks in 3DMark show impressive scores for its class, with the RTX 5060 GPU delivering performance slightly above comparable RTX 4060 laptops. Real-world gaming tests at 1080p and even upscaled to 1440p were commendable. Connecting to an external ultrawide monitor at 5120 x 1440 resolution with a 60 FPS cap really pushed the system close to its limits, yet gameplay remained stable at moderately high graphical settings. Fan noise under load was moderate, with thermals effectively managed. The keyboard, marketed as the "Golden Curve Keyboard," offers a genuinely comfortable typing and gaming experience. The slightly larger, curved keys and deeper travel provide a satisfying, quiet typing feel that enhances usability significantly. Under sustained gaming sessions, thermals will likely encourage the use of an external keyboard, which is typical for high-performance laptops. Physically, the laptop has some design quirks. While the bottom chassis design shows meticulous attention, other aspects, like the loose power connector and limited USB-C ports, feel overlooked. The 180-degree hinge, while robust, provides limited real-world benefit outside of preventing damage from overextension. In conclusion, the GIGABYTE Gaming A16 offers robust gaming capabilities and solid hardware performance. Initial software hurdles and unrefined AI features hold it back slightly. Still, with some patience during setup, it's a strong desktop replacement and portable gaming solution that meets and occasionally exceeds expectations for its price and category.

Really happy with my new GIGABYTE laptop so far. The build feels solid, the overall design looks great, and the performance has been excellent for what I use it for. I mainly got it for productivity, creative work, and some gaming, and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it smoothly so far. I especially like the combination of performance and portability. Setup was straightforward, and after getting everything updated and configured, the laptop has been running well. The display and keyboard are also nice to use for longer work sessions. I’m still early into using it, so I’ll need more time to properly judge long-term battery life, thermals, and durability, but my first impression has been very positive. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase and looking forward to using it for my creative projects.

Honestly, this laptop is really great. I use it for work, and it is sturdy enough for me to travel with, and has enough RAM for me to be able to carry out all my work related tasks seamlessly. When connected to the wall, it also has enough juice for me to do some gaming. It actually outperforms my desktop. So no I am using this as my main computer. The only thing is, you have to play around a little with the power settings and other things if you want the battery to last a bit without having it connected. I think the most I got out of it was about a little over four hours. With all it's gaming settings on, it lasts about an hour to an hour and a half. Other than that, if it is a laptop that you will have connected for a while, or a long time, it is awesome! When travelling for work, I just try to find an outlet so I can have it plugged in, and then take it with me to wherever I need for brief periods of time, and then go back to connecting it.
