Gregory Isaacs - I Would Rather Fight - Red - VINYL LP

Jamaican singer born in Clarendon, Jamaica on June 27, 1956. At age seven, he started singing backup for a local ska harmony duo called The Clarendonians and did his first recordings aged 10 years with the name InchLittle FreddieInch or InchYoung FreddieInch, and as a duo with Ernest Wilson aka InchFreddie & FitsyInch. McGregor stayed at Studio One for much of the '70s. He sang lead for groups like Generation Gap and Soul Syndicate, and also recorded off and on as a solo act during the '70s. In 1975, McGregor converted to Rastafarianism. Freddie McGregor's debut album Mr. McGregor was released in 1979. The album opens with InchWe Got LoveInch featuring a Tower of Power influenced horn section underneath McGregor's tale of love conquering all. The classic InchRastaman CampInch combines muted horn and an earthy, Nyahbinghi-like chorus for one of producer Niney's deeper constructions, but the lightweight fare is equally welcome as the easy strolling and not too sugary version of InchBrandyInch displays. GREGORY ANTHONY ISAACS was born in Jamaica in 1951 and made his first recording as a teenager. He formed the African Museum record tag and shop with his friend and fellow artist Errol Dunkley at the turn of the Seventies. He cut his first hit, 'My Only Lover', for the tag, which is now regarded as the first lovers' rock record ever made. Our compilation focusses on Isaacs' most prolific and successful years working with Jamaica's top producers including Alvin Ranglin, Winston Holness, Gussie Clarke, Lloyd Campbell and Lee InchScratchInch Perry. He scored a string of hits including 'All I Have Is Love', Black A Kill Black', 'Sinner Man' and 'Slave Master', all featured here.
