I am highly impressed with this companies ability to incorporate accurate historical information as well as accurate representation of psychosis. Not to mention the amazing graphics. Well worth a play

Graphics: absolutely gorgeous. Sound/voice: every environment feels alive. Play with a high quality set of headphones to take advantage of the 360° recordings they made. The voices Senua hears throughout the game are very haunting and eerie. The actress who shares her likeness for the character Senua gave a brilliant performance. I loved those cutscenes where the camera is right up on her face and she gives it her all to convey this person going through some awful stuff. Gameplay: I think this is where people might start differing in opinion. The game has a linear path to follow with some slight openness to it (think of the first Uncharted game). There’s some environmental puzzles you need to solve that can be challenging at times and some can get a little tedious. Another thing I’ve notice people complain about is the combat system. For me I quite enjoyed it. It’s simple, yes but it gets the job done. You’ve got to understand that this isn’t a God of War game (apart from maybe the visuals) where you’re chaining these combos up with some very punchy attacks. Hellblade is more of wait for an opportunity to strike, then strike. There’s an attack coming, dodge. With that said the way the camera is positioned, it all seems very cinematic and for me I enjoyed that. So in conclusion if you like that Viking setting and want a good but dark and depressing tale pick this one up. It’s not a very long game but there’s enough to bite on.

Hellblade is truly one of the best games out there today. It’s almost 4 years old but it has better graphics than some games out there today. The gameplay is nice, combat system isn’t too involved so you learn things pretty quickly. My only complaint is there are a lot of environmental puzzles that could be annoying but a quick YouTube video can help you if you’re stuck. The story is where this game really shines. An amazing, emotional and impactful story with a truly amazing character. I really believe Senua’s is one of the best characters introduced in this generation. She’s a character who reeks of trauma. Her experience in this game is heartbreaking to watch but is also wildly entertaining. Lastly the audio is probably the best part of the game. You must play this game with headphones. The voices that speak to Senua’s are freaky and headphones really amplify that freakin was. Overall this game is so unique and different than other games. It’s phenomenal, I recommend it to anyone who enjoys single player games. Can’t wait for Hellblade 2!!

This is a very stunning looking game, the visuals are some of the best I’ve seen. The story is one that hits hard, and you may need to prepare yourself for or be in the right headspace before playing… Very highly recommend.

Wow ! What an awesome game ! Right from the get go if you don't have surround sound use some headphones to catch all the detail that went into the audio of this game it's back seat to no other honestly. It sucks you in that paired with the awesome awesome graphics holy bad words batman..... The story is dark border line scary but totally different than anything else right now. Combat system easy to pick up I'm not really sure about replayability I'm still playing threw but an awesome first play threw game well worth the $30 in my opinion. Difficulty hard enough to challenge you but definitely not dark souls status and to me thats not a bad thing this game is more story driven. Good buy tho in my opinion.

This game is quite difficult to review because it is unique. If you are into story driven games that have puzzles in them and the combat is easy to pick up, you may enjoy this game. If you’re into action packed games with nonstop action this isn’t for you , this game encourages you to stop and appreciate your surrounding to actively search for lore markers that add to the games story. Overall I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the 10-12 hours it took me to complete this game. One more thing ; the game is beautiful on a PS4 pro and 4K display, you can definitely sink a lot of time just messing with the photo mode.

You play as Senua in a Norse Mythology setting. You journey towards the gates of hell to take back the soul of your deceased partner. No matter the cost. This game is played in an over-the-shoulder third-person view. If you have played games like Dead Space, The Last of Us, or the new God of War its EXACTLY like that. Which is a great thing. I find this camera angle for your avatar to make the experience grounded. For a AA game Ninja Theory made great use of their engine. The environments look great. The dialog is great. The use of 3D audio and spatial sound, perfect. (Please use the gold or platinum PlayStation headset for this one.). The combat is very enjoyable. I play on the hardest difficulty and every enemy encounter feels like I’m one hit away from dying. It’s intense! You have a weak attack. Strong attack. A melee attack. Guarding. Dodging. From here things become more complex. For example, enemies with shields require you to first dodge their attack, counter with a melee move to knock the shield down, THEN go in for the damage. It becomes a puzzle almost depending on the enemies you will face. It’s cinematic looking but also requires good reflexes. You will be engaged 100%. I love this game. It’s a focused linear narrative that may put you in a trance with its strange voices and weird sounds! Every death matters however I won’t explain why. You need to find that out for yourself.

This game has all the things that make action games enjoyable to play. Excellent gameplay, great graphics and sound that sets the grim tone perfectly. It also has a somber story that puts you in the shoes of a woman with mental health issues setting out to avenge the loss of her partner. This topic is treated respectfully and made the game truly memorable for me.

Going in, did not know what to expect outside of what the critics say about this game. Almost done with the game. It is short (invested around 6 hours so far with 2 areas to go), but bought for $15.99 with Playstation Play of Days sale price and gamers club still in effect. Sale ends June 17, 2019. Great story. Great art direction. Keeps you invested in the main character Senua. Combat system is pretty easy to get used to after a few fights. Without giving away a spoiler, I like the fact that the game added a mechanic that makes you think about your fights (too many deaths result in complete lost progress). No facerolling through this game. A lot of puzzles. Some stealth, exploration, and gathering involved in game. Each boss fight adds a new element on top of the normal enemies. Highly recommend this game for anyone that enjoys single player games. Made by Ninja Theory, same team that worked on ps3 game Heavenly Sword (also a short game) and Devil May Cry series. Have fun!

Graphics are great, sound design is great, story is impactful and harrowing. Gameplay is mediocre with shallow, clunky combat and boring puzzles. Game length is relatively short, but well paced and felt complete. Overall, it’s a game worth trying out for the price it’s now at. I’m glad I didn’t spend the full $60 for the game, but for $20 it was well worth it to me.

Know what you're getting into before you give this a go. Hellblade is a short, linear adventure tale with some horror elements thrown in. Its roughly 80% puzzle and 20% combat. I've seen some compare this to God of War, but I don't think so... Only similarities to God of War (2018) are the 3rd person camera view, and the Greek mythology. I think the 2 stand out elements of this game are the graphics and the length. At roughly 8 hours, it is the perfect run time for a game of this nature. I actually wish more games would shorten themselves like this. This game will live and die for you based on your investment in the story. I personally did not enjoy the story, so I was left with what the gameplay has to offer, which is not much. The puzzles are fun and make you think a bit - but there are no game play mechanics like leveling up, finding items, etc.. This is a very "indie" feeling game in this nature. You just proceed forward, solve the occasional puzzle and move on.

Very good story, beautiful looking, combat is actually pretty fun. I still can't believe they got one of their regular employees with pretty much zero experience to do the mocap for Senua. P.S. play this game with headphones.

I just finished playing this game and was a bit disappointed on how short the time is to finish. It is a good game with great graphics. The combat style is simple and forgiving. If you plan to buy this game I recommend using headphones since the sound plays an important role in the gameplay.

This is such an amazing game. Fantastic graphics, epic story, and tough puzzles. I had to have the physical edition as soon as it released.

A powerful and beautiful character study on mental health meets a journey in the Norse underworld. Immersive audio, stunning graphics, and wonderful art direction. Combat can feel clunky, but also exciting.
