'How Green Was My Valley' shows the directorial skill of one of Hollywood's most prolifically award winning directors, John Ford. With the help of Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara and a very young Roddy McDowall, Ford achieves a slice-of-life drama about one family's trials and tribulations living in the coal mining region of Wales. The very fact that this is one of filmdom's classic successes to present believably real people and their real life experiences to the viewing audiences proved they could emotionally move those audiences. This is a shining example of movie making that deserves a place in the library of all serious film collectors. Thank you Best Buy for making this Blu-ray disc available to us and at a reasonable price.

They literally don’t make movies like this anymore. The story, the acting is of a time when it had to be right. No CGI, no special effects. A must see!

This movie is a Black & White Classic that beat out Citizen Kane for Best Movie in 1941. The Blu-ray release of this movie offers outstanding audio and visual. This is the third time I have watched this movie and it was more enjoyable this time. The story is about a Welsh coal mining family and is narrated by Roddy McDowell, who plays a young boy in the family. There are numerous stars in this movie such as Maureen O'Hara and Walter Pidgeon and they all turn in magnificent performances. This is an adult family movie and seemed to be very realistic to me. It was filmed in the U.S.A. because World War II was going on in Europe at the time.

How Green Was My Valley is a truly wonderful film. I know that many see it as a paint-by-numbers studio attempt of telling a story that relates to the working class - and they’re not wrong! It’s explores parallels of family duty and fiscal responsibility, love wanted and love lost, all through the lens of a small boy seeing his family change as he grows from boy to man. But that’s it’s true strength that speaks volumes to every generation. Look at it this way... now no one EVER has to make a movie like this ever again!

This is the story of a Welsh mining family, the Morgans, told through the eyes of the youngest son, Huw (played by a 12-year old Roddy MacDowall). The film centers on his struggle toward manhood amid conflicting demands of faith, economics, education and family loyalty in a Wales caught in an irreversible shift from a pastoral to an industrialized society.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time( Best Picture Academy Award). The acting was superb. The greatest Director of all time _ John Ford! Incredible set created in Southern California (Academy Award) because of impending WWII making on location impossible. The extras are worth the purchase as well.
