The HP Omen Max 16 with the Nvidia RTX 5080 is a near perfect gaming computer. Overall if you look at the entire Build, specs, value, and performance, it's the best gaming computer I've tested dating back about 10 years. The HP Omen Max doesn't get the fanfare that some of the other brands share, but those days are gone. The HP Omen Max 16 has thoughtfully designed an outstanding gaming machine. I looked at build quality, cooling, power, display, and benchmarks in my review and here are the results. Design/Build Quality: First of all, these are the standout features of the HP Omen Max 16 that set it apart from the rest of the competition. There is are inputs on the back center of the computer for HDMI, Ethernet, USB-A, and your power cable. This lessens the clutter on the left and right side of your computer for peripherals. The Lid and the base are made of aluminum to help with system cooling, but the keyboard deck is hard plastic which feels cooler to the toluch while you're gaming. There's a vapor chamber and liquid metal to maximize cooling. The OLED Display at 16:9 looks amazing and it has an ultra fast response rate and 240Hz refresh. Specs/Features CPU - Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX (3 nm, Arrow Lake), 24 Cores (8 P-Cores, 16 E-Cores), TDP is 55 Watts. The Max Temp is 105 C. GPU - Nvidia RTX 5080, 16GB GDDR7 SDRAM (Samsung), 256-bit Memory - 32GB DDR5-5600 SDRAM (2 Banks of 16GB) SK Hynix SSD - 2 TB NVME SSD Western Digital PC SN810 WiFi - Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 320MHz Display - 16" OLED 2560x1600, 240Hz refresh Touchpad - Hard plastic, very responsive but not glass like most premium models. Keyboard - I didn't like the keyboard for typing. There's no space in between keys and it has a soft rubbery feel. It's fine for gaming but I like to use my keyboard for more than gaming. Fan Cleaner - Fans spin in reverse to blow out dust. This is a great idea. Advanced Performance Tuning - Allows you to overclock your CPU & GPU to max out performance. HP gives you complete control over CPU & GPU power as well as your fans Software - The Omen 16 Max is free of any excessive bloatware. The Omen Gaming Hub software is your command station to monitor your system and performance. You can setup your per-key RGB, but it also has a few gadgets you can use such as a Cam & Voice enhancer. I find the Omen Software a little slow to start up, but very comprehensive. There's even a shortcut key in the top right of the keyboard. You can setup profiles to choose what kind of power draw you want whether it's browsing the web, gaming, or conserving battery in eco mode. Performance - Once thing you have to consider is there's a trade-off when cooling a gaming laptop. You can lessen the power and get cooler temps, or you can go full power and run a little hotter. More power = Higher Temps. HP decided to go full power with a vapor chamber and liquid metal to get every frame possible. You do have options in the Omen Gaming Hub: Eco, Balanced, Performance, and Unleashed (Manual Settings) if you want to dictate cooling. I setup my own profile for gaming under unleashed where I set the CPU power and a dynamic fan curve. The Omen Max 16's RTX 5080 performed great at High & Ultra settings. I didn't test it with frame generation but it's available if you want to boost your FPS. CPU Temps usually settled in the 80's but peaked in the mid 90's. The GPU temp was typically low to mid 70's but did peak in the 80s when stressed. Here are a few games I tested: Assassin's Creed Mirage - 146 average fps Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - 138 average fps CyberPunk 2077 - 127 average fps Assasin's Creed Valhalla - 152 average fps The benchmarks were exceptional. I expected it with top-tier hardware and HP did a great job with the cooling design. GeekBench: 2851 CPU Single-Core, 18899 CPU Multi-Core, 196644 GPU OpenCL Score Cinebench 2024: 1750 Multi-Core Speed Way: 5831 Steel Nomad: 5263 Time Spy: 21275 - Pros/Cons - *Pros* - Beautiful OLED with ultra fast response time - Full keyboard including 10-key number pad - Per Key RGB - Full Power RTX 5080 (175W TGP) - Vapor Chamber cooling and liquid metal paste for CPU/GPU - Inputs in the back - Excellent Benchmarks - *Suggestions/Needs Improvement* - Keyboard has no spacing and difficult to type on - Plastic Tracking Pad This laptop really surprised me. I think it's arguably the best value for an RTX 5080 gaming laptop and it's nice that you can tune it exactly as you see fit through the Omen gaming hub. Overall, I feel like HP really nailed it with their design and performance. I highly recommend it.

This is the king right now of laptops, i coulsnt of been happier with the preformance. Any game i want, mods and everything, from hevaily modded MC with shaders to the max, arc survival ascended, or even star citizen all are playable on max setting with buttery smooth preformance! This thing is top .01% in preformance. The hardware is solid and the RBG goes great with everything. The 2k, OLED screen really stands out. The machine looks as beautiful as she runs. There is only one gripe about it and its the batter life, this bad boy needs the charger but its well worth it when its that much more portable than a desktop would be! But you need the power to run that 5080 rtx. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as i do. 9/10

What’s to say? This laptop is a beast! The OLED screen is jaw dropping. Will play the most intensive games at least 100fps. BeamNG.drive will run smooth with 20 AI cars. The fans can be loud but nothing like a desktop. One of the things that sold me on this one over Lenovo’s equivalent is the 2TB drive. Picked it up when it went on sale $600 off. I love this beast. Battery life while gaming is low… maybe 30 mins. But I don’t use mine on battery much at all. Expandable too… you can add a second SSD and upgrade the RAM to 96GB.

This is one of the best-looking laptops available right now. It still has a slightly bulky design, but that helps provide excellent cooling and performance. The build feels solid and the design stands out compared to many other gaming laptops. Performance has been excellent so far. It handles everything I throw at it without issues — from architectural workflows and creative work to gaming. If you need a powerful laptop that can manage demanding tasks while still looking great, this one is definitely worth considering.

Had it for 2 weeks now. Amazing performance, although some issues with Optimus switching displays and slight lag when on battery power. Trying to find a workaround for this. But you can carry this beast gaming laptop anywhere, just bring the power box. When plugged in, it is desktop level performance. Get a laptop cooler to help the fans out. Happy purchase, no regrets.

Amazing laptop! It runs all my programs smoothly! It gets a little loud when gaming. So using headphones is advised. As a laptop you will need to use charger if you want the best performance. Not the greatest battery though.

I picked this up somehow for 2100 on an open item deal I saw so of course my wallet looked at me with disgust as I tapped my card on the kiosk. The laptop I think is great, super fast with everything I've done so far. I actually like the Omen hub and think its easy to use. Rgb lightinf studio is pretty nice too but it uses a LOT of memory and you cant stop it. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and the built in cam has an integrated cover for curricular hub activities. I would give this 5 stars but this keyboard for whatever reason is extremely difficult for me to initially set my fingers on it. So this plus moderate difficulty navigating while typing hurts my experience with it. Its surprisingly quite for using top tier hardware paired with high power input. Also this has a unique "fan cleaning" mode which spins them backwards. Overall it's a killer performance laptop but that keyboard hates me.

I purchased this computer to be my portable VR development workstation. It worked great for my use case. I primarily use it with the Unity 3D engine. I had expectations and most of them were either met or better than expected. Its not perfect and its clear where corners were cut. Expected: - Heavy - Bad battery life if using heavy GPU workloads - Premium materials on the entire laptop (Did not meet expectations (read below)) - More I/O - Great sound (Did not meet expectations (read below)) Likes: - performance of the CPU/GPU - the OLED screen - individual RGB keys - Upgradable storage and RAM - BIOS setting to set max battery charge to 80% for longevity - Physical camera slide cover Dislikes: - THE SPEAKERS ARE TERRIBLE AND QUIET (It really is bad) - Needed to remove a lot of extra software (Some of this is Microsoft's fault) - Can't assign a custom action to the OMEN key on the keyboard without significant work - No gaps between keys - Trackpad is cheap and plastic. Odd for a premium product. - Inner case is plastic while the outer case is metal. For this price I wish it was all metal - Feels like its lacking I/O. Could use more ports at this price point - No touch / pen screen - Proprietary charge port with an expensive replacement brick. - nVidia Laptop RTX 5080 is more like a desktop 5070. Don't expect the same performance (Not HPs fault here)

This machine is a beast, with a beautiful 240 hz OLED screen and trust me once you use a OLED panel its really difficult to go back. The RTX 5080 will give you 4090 laptop performance easily if not better and thats not including the titles with advance frame generation. CPU temps even under heavy load are good, and its not a macbook pro size laptop by any means BUT its a fairly “small” laptop for a gaming laptop anyway. The speakers are very good BUT not great. And then theres the keyboard, the RGB looks amazing but the look and soft touch isnt for everyone even if i personally love it. Internally theres 2 ram slots that are upgradable as well as a extra nvme slot. But the one con is the price, it’s expensive. But if you are okay with spending over 3 grand on a gaming desktop replacement you will not regret this machine.

Laptop runs great, thin enough and the OLED screen is amazing. Returned a 5070ti g14 for this and have no regrets. Able to hit 100+ fps in most games with dlss and MFG is pretty amazing as well. Trackpad could be better, but thats my only complaint. CPU temps can get to 100 but i havent had any performance issues.

Very powerful laptop with excellent performance. The OLED 240Hz display looks amazing, and the RTX 5080 handles games extremely well. Everything runs fast and smooth, and the 2TB SSD provides plenty of storage. Overall, I’m very happy with the laptop and would definitely recommend it.

Absolute beast—OLED looks insane, runs everything!

Best Buy purchase is working perfectly. I purchased from Best Buy after being ripped off from an Amazon seller, the same computer except with 32GB of RAM. I added an additional 2TB SSD I already had in the empty SSD slot and replaced the two 16GB DDR5’s with two 32GB DDR5’s as long as I had it open. Everything installed without a hitch and now I’ve maxed it out as I always do with my computers since I run multiple graphic intensive programs for digitizing simultaneously. I originally purchased the HP Omen computer except with 64GB of memory from Amazon and it was a ripoff! Windows didn’t work properly even after all updates were applied to 11. Just a few examples of Windows errors: Camera incompatible so no facial recognition; Touchpad incompatible so no fingerprint recognition; Keyboard lights didn’t work; Thunderbolt connections didn’t work; SSD empty second slot missing on motherboard. I’m very knowledgeable with computers & knew it was a clone, definitely not a comparable motherboard, camera, and more. . Nothing worked as it should. *I was only able to get a partial refund from this Amazon seller. I had to pay a 20% restocking fee and shipping! There was nothing I could do, but better than being out the entire amount I paid. I will never purchase any high priced item from Amazon again! I can’t say enough for Best Buy and the quality products they offer. I’m very happy with my purchase from Best Buy!

I always hunt for a laptop which will have the highest TDP for atleast the GPU. This laptop is a direct competitor for the legion 7i pro. Anyway this has a great OLED screen, very easy to use tuning software by OMEN, form factor is already pretty great and its has a decent weight.

I just bought it around 3 days ago and this thing is amazing i wish omen software were more simple but thats not relevant to the power and how beautifull this system is playing all my games Max and cooling looking really good , if you can afford it this is the 1 you want to buy trully amazing piece of hardware by HP Omen brand

Absolutely love this computer! Would definitely recommend! Had some problems at first but just needed to do some different updates, got those done and it’s ran flawlessly since.

Great pc. Very nice display. Super fast and good for gaming
