A: The printer has a "clean printhead" routine built into it. So you can run that (possibly several times if the printheads are really clogged. Typically, however, if you turn the printer off on the printer itself (not by using something like a power strip's "off" button the printer will cap the print heads, which will greatly extend the time before you need to run the "clean printhead" routine.
Q: can this printer be used for sublimation heat crafts
A: Hello, Kim! The HP Smart Tank 5000 does not support traditional sublimation printing directly onto fabrics, however, it does work perfectly with the use of iron-on heat transfer paper. As long as you are using iron-on heat transfer paper designed for InkJets without the use of specialty inks, you will have a pleasant experience creating anything you can think of! Q: If there is no color ink available, will it still print black??
A: Sadly all of the printer manufacturers anymore say that the printer needs to use a little bit of color when printing black and white. It is a pain if you have one or more two pages to print and it stops because you are out of yellow (or another color). We had a Canon printer for almost 15 years and you could continue printing in black and white if one, two or all three colors were out. You just didn't want to do it long term but you could still print 10-20 more pages in black and white in order to finish a project. We also had used third party ink which the companies now a days will tell you that can damage the printer causing it to not last very long. I would say that 15 years was pretty good for a printer in general but to also have used third party ink and to have ran it without color several times over the years - we averaged about 500 pages a month for personal and three businesses, was proof what the printer manufacturers are claiming is necessarily true unless they have since manufactured the printers to fail when out of one color or if you don't used their ink. When they eliminate the competition for ink, they can charge whatever they want. We went from spending about $50.00 a year on third party ink to over $500.00 on name brand ink after buying a new printer last year that would not recognize third party ink after updating the firmware.
