Not only does this microwave use a powerful 1,000 watts, it also features 11 power levels and a two-stage cooking function—programming two cook times and power levels at the same time—so you can control exactly how you cook. A removable turntable helps evenly heat the food and can be turned off if needed. When your stovetop dishes produce too much steam, simply turn on the fan to vent or filter to clear the air. Exterior task lighting makes it even easier to keep an eye on dinner. Solve dinnertime frustrations with the Insignia 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave with 2-Stage Cooking.
A: The product specs are incorrect. Rear height for mounting is 16-3/8". The front tapers up to 15-3/4" I purchased this specifically because of the height specs given. Replacing an old one and have granite backsplash. What should have taken a 1/2 hr to swap cost an entire day, pulling the cabinets and having the granite cut to size.
A: Fan vents upwards, above the door.
Q: Do you have a link to this products installation guide
A: This is the owner's manual. https://files.bbystatic.com/Hlrc1JMyLZ2%2BPiPU8ZosRA%3D%3D/User%2BGuide Unit is a clone of the Midea MMO17S5AST (minor changes in control panel layout). The Midea manual is more thorough. https://www.midea.com/content/dam/midea-aem/us/microwaves/midea-1-7-cu--ft--30--over-the-range-microwave-with-sensor-cooking/MMO17S3AST-User-Manual.pdf
A: Hello Anne, thank you for your question. Yes, the Insignia™ 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over‑the‑Range Microwave does come with a thin protective film over the control panel when it’s brand new. It can sometimes be difficult to see or peel because it’s applied very tightly to protect the surface during shipping. If you gently run your fingernail along the edge of the number pad, you should feel the film lift so you can remove it. Sudeep | Insignia
Q: Does the unit have a follow up alarm if you leave something after heating
A: Every 2 min it will beep again if door has not been opened. Do not know how many times this will repeat but at least 2x.
Q: How high above the stove does this microwave need to be installed
A: 16" is the min height of any over the range oven. Will need to use a slim model if you lack the clearance.

Overall I am satisfied with the microwave. REALLY QUIET! First time using it thought the magnetron was defective. Been accustomed to that classic HUM noise but it is barely discernible on this model. Heating time is fairly typical of any 1000W model. But a significant difference vs our previous 800W microwave. This is essentially a clone of the Midea MMO17S5AST. With a custom control panel (and IMO better layout + larger and vibrant VFD display). Like the convenient Express Heating function. Buttons 1-3 or the +30 sec will auto start for X min. Otherwise must press Cook Time + Start for a specific duration. There quick sheet instructions printed behind the door for Popcorn, Veggies, etc... The touchpad does require a firm press for buttons to register. For those with long nails this may not be best model for you. Button text can be difficult to read in dim lighting. Interior by far easier to clean than our old model. I do miss having a button for the door. With the handle there is a solid clunk. Features 2-stage cooking, allowing for setting specific time and power level for each stage. Probably not something will ever use but a nice-to-have. End buzzer is brief and unobnoxious. Has a reminder buzzer after 2 min if door hasn't been opened. And like that the touchpad beeps can be disabled if preferred. Only one level for light. Essentially functional as a night light, which is all I ever use it for anyway. It is not a standard bulb. Type is Z187. Not exactly proprietary but specific only to microwaves. Same bulb type also used for the interior lighting. Learned the hard way lighting circuit uses a switched Neutral! Unit must be unplugged to replace. Fuse is in the top right area behind the control panel. There is a hidden recessed screw at the top right corner to remove the control panel, which then lifts UP and pivot OUT. Exhaust fan noise is fairly typical. Has two levels which is basically loud and bit louder. Very little difference. Filter for recirculation is comically pathetic. So small and porous any function is may serve is moot. Fan is something we rarely use. Unless you have it exhausting outside it's function would be redundant. Door handle is only plastic. Should be fine for normal use but avoid aggressively yanking on it. And don't clean with anything abrasive or the paint will wear off. Listed specifications are incorrect. The rear cut-out height is 16-1/2". Bottoms tapers up a bit to 15-3/4"at the front. I purchased this model specifically because of the listed dimensions. We have a granite backsplash that was installed along with our old microwave which was a bit shorter (15-1/2"). While I have the tooling to cut it this still turned a 1/2 hr swap into a full day project. And a LOT of cleanup afterwards. I appreciate that this came packed with not just the standard foam but extra reinforcement at the corners. These are heavy and this alleviates common shipping damage. Bottom line this is an economical OtR microwave, that despite a few minor complaints (and BB spec listing) meets my expectations.

For the price compared to other expensive overranged microwaves. This one takes the spot. Had a GE for 4 years and it stopped heating up but still worked. Got the stainless steel version and i'm happy with my choice. The express timer is so convenient just by a button. And the food really heats up quickly because its a 1000 watts. However. There's one down side versus other microwaves i've used. There's a slight 2 to 3 second delay after pressing a button. Example Turning on the vent fans changing the speed or the bottom light. At first i find it very weird but overcame it. Some folks might find this annoying and some might say you get what you paid for. Not spending $200-$400 plus on no name brand microwave. All of them gonna break. I'm happy with this one.

Great microwave for a good price. Don’t expect premium finishes, but it gets the job done and looks good (at least while new).
