A: No 'popping sound' on ours. It is actually very quiet. I'd return it.
Q: Does it hold 1.5 liter bottles?
A: The racks are made for 'standard' sized wine bottles (750 ML). The racks are removable so I'm sure you could put one or two in there, but you would have the racks to store.

A: No, there is no internal temperature display. I purchased an inexpensive refrigerator thermometer that I hung from one of the shelves that can be viewed while the door is closed.

A: inside width 16 inches Inside height 15 inches Inside depth 12.5 inches The racks are not adjustable, but removable couldn't even guess at smallest wine bottle that would fit. The racks appear to be standard storage size

Q: Can you place items on top of the wine fridge? If so, how much weight is safe to put on top of it?
A: I wouldn't put anything too heavy on top of it, as I can't speak to the construction of the unit's materials (like another cooler or something very heavy). Though, the top of it feel sturdy enough to put perhaps your wine accessories (glasses, openers, Coravin, bar mat) and maybe a bottle or two. I have not felt any warmth on the top of it, so I would not worry about impeding that. I checked the manual and I did not see anything against (or for) putting items on top.
