Q: Can this be mounted to dry wall without studs backing at the attachment points
A: I'm a painting contractor and I am used to putting up flat screens for my clients. But I highly recommend do not put into drywall only with the screws that are accompanied with the mount ( any screws). I recommend butterfly screws for the wall mount and that will fix the problem.
A: We used wall anchores since we didn’t have studs in our RV worked great
Q: Does the brackets have to be secured into a stud in the wall?
A: No, the bracket can be mounted directly into drywall as long as you purchase the correct style anchors. They make specific drywall anchors that can hold up to 70lbs, I used 4, 1 in each corner. A bit overkill i know for a 17lb t.v but better safe then sorry.
