Q: Does it clean in a grid pattern or randomly?
A: It's not quite 100% random but it's not quite a grid pattern either (though you can 'spot' it like the old models, i believe), there is some kind of logic to it, but i don't think i can explain it. It has sensors, avoids obstacles, turns corners without having to bump something, slows down as it approaches things, when it finds dirts it spends more time in an area, etc.
Q: What makes the 890 worth$125 more than 690?
A: not sure honestly - we noticed the price increase over our original unit but it does have a bigger catch basin and runs quieter so it may be due to improved design. Very glad we made the jump though.
Q: I have white baseboards. Does the model leave scuff marks on baseboards or furniture?
A: Yes my white trim was all scuffed...had to replace all trim and repaint some.i will not use roomba anymore...very sad
Q: Why is the 890 more expensive than the 891?
A: the 890 has the virtual wall included.
Q: What is the best app to use to control th e model 890?
A: I use the iRobot app to control it from my phone. It also integrates with Amazon alexa with the Roomba skill so I usually just say "Alexa ask Roomba to start vacuuming" and then the Roomba takes off and does it's thing. When it is done it goes back to home base on its own. It vacuums for 90 minutes. Super easy.
A: Thanks so much for the question; comparing and choosing the right robot can be confusing. There are actually a few key differences between the 890 and 960. Best Buy has a nice comparison chart on the iRobot brand page, but here are the highlights: 1) The 960 navigates using a built-in camera (vSLAM technology) which provides full-level cleaning because the robot can recharge and resume if needed to complete a mission. In other words, if it runs low on battery, it will return to its Home Base, recharge, and pick up where it left off until the job is done. Because of this feature, the slightly lower running time is less of an impact 2) The vSLAM tech also means the robot cleans in parallel rows and can provide a CleanMap report of coverage for each job. You can also customize your cleaning preferences 3) Both the 890 and 960 have 5x the suction of the 600-series robots, are WiFi connected, work with Amazon and Google devices for voice activation and provide the same, superior 3-stage cleaning system I'd choose your Roomba based on how large of an area you want to clean at a time and how much customization you want in terms of cleaning and reporting. A: We currently have 6 dogs of various sizes and mostly medium/long hair that spend a lot of time in the house so we have a LOT of dog hair on the floors. We have had the 960 model for almost 2 years and I still swear it is the best gift I have ever gotten! I set it to clean at night when everyone is in bed in the main living areas (primarily wood and some tile) and it cleans dog hair, tracked in dirt and everything else like a charm. It's great to wake up to clean floors and we all love our "Hazel"!
