About this product

Internationally renowned and award-winning composer Salvador Brotons brings classical music into the here and now, depicting our contemporary world in his Fifth Symphony. It's first three movements are musical representations of the more negative aspects of the human condition, before the slow, final section offers a positive resolution. The Oboe Concertobrings out both lyrical expressiveness and virtuoso thrills from the soloist, and the Four Pieces for String Orchestra was the prize-winning work which brought acclaim and recognition to Brotons at the age of seventeen. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 5 Mundus Noster, Op 117 - Orquestra Simfonica de Balears, 'Ciutat de Palma' 2. Oboe Concerto, Op 115 - Orquestra Simfonica de Balears, 'Ciutat de Palma' 3. Four Pieces for String Orchestra Suite, Op 14 - Orquestra Simfonica de Balears, 'Ciutat de Palma'

The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and it's Music Director Rafael Payare make their Pentatone debut with Mahler's 5th Symphony. The album is also the first recording under Payare's tenure, and the beginning of a longer recording relationship with the tag. For Payare, the Fifth is the last symphony that shows Mahler still looking forward to what the future might bring, unlike his subsequent, much darker and existential works. Despite that optimism, there is enough tragedy and struggle along the way, resonating with Mahler's life at the time of creation. Payare's proficiency in late-Romantic repertoire coupled with the matured, distinctive sound of the Montréal players make this a collaboration to look out for. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp Minor~I. Trauermarsch. In gemessenem Schritt. Streng. Wie ein Kondukt 3. Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp Minor~III. Scherzo. Kräftig, nicht zu schnell 4. Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp Minor~IV. Adagietto. Sehr langsam
