- Description: A Great Miracle Jeremiah Lockwood's Guitar Soli Chanukah Album, a solo guitar tribute to the holiday, is now available on Reboot Records. With heartfelt appreciation of the 1968 classic The New Possibility John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Record, Lockwood has sweetly crafted eight songs, one for each night of Chanukah, to celebrate the dancing candlelight with his new, blues-inspired takes on the most beloved melodies of the holiday's canon. Lockwood's career has followed a unique path, with deep musical inspiration coming from two mentors. His grandfather Cantor Jacob Konigsberg (1921-2007) infused in him the melodies of the Jewish liturgy, with Lockwood performing in his choir. Lockwood credits his career as a guitarist to a decade-long apprenticeship with the legendary blues musician Carolina Slim, a.k.a. Elijah Staley (1926-2014), who passed down to Lockwood the Piedmont blues tradition of Brownie McGhee and Buddy Moss. Lockwood also leads the band Sway Machinery, which features Jordan McLean of Antibalis and at one point Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Great Miracle is the ultimate realization of both sides of Lockwood's learning, as he translates the major Chanukkah melodies into a blues language, through his fingers and the strings of his Gibson guitar. InchJeremiah Lockwood... has recorded an outstanding instrumental album of Chanukah songs in the style of American primitive icon John Fahey... Those familiar with the original source material will pick up on those melodic lines woven within his deft six-string picking. For example, InchRitualInch opens the record with the simple melodies of the bracha, or blessings, but becomes increasingly complex. Lockwood repeats the phrasing multiple times, surrounding them with more and more mellifluous chords and picking until the original prayers become camouflaged within the whole of the song. It was in the summer of 2012 that SVIIB was written 'I can easily say that it was one of the most creative and inspired summers of our lives' Deheza recounts 'What followed was the most tragic soul shaking tidal wave that life could ever deliver but even that wouldn't stop the vision for this record being realized.' It was in the fall of 2012 that Curtis was diagnosed with a rare form of T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Less than a year later Deheza would be the sole member of the group. Benjamin Curtis passed away on December 29 2013. In 2014 Deheza moved to Los Angeles to finish the record with Justin Meldal Johnsen. 'I'm trying to feature Benjamin as much as possible' Meldal Johnsen says, 'As soon as Alley was settled in LA it took the two only a month and a half to finish the record. This is a love letter from start to finish. It's the story of us starting from that first day we met in 2004 and that's the story of School of Seven Bells' Alley says, 'When I see those roman numerals I just think of an era.'
Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
