Operational User Evaluation of JLab Audio - Play Wireless Stereo Gaming Earphones - Black/Blue Model:GEBPLAYRBLKBLU84 SKU:6396200 Summary report: Product meets described functions. Detailed results: This unit was able to transmit and receive multiple BT 5.0 signals on multiple devices without any issues. Battery life was around 10.8 hours of heavy use, and more than a week of occasional/standby use. 30 minutes to fully charge unit out of the box. Dead battery took 95 minutes. For $49 retail this is a bargain. Buds were comfortable and blocked out as much sound as you want to block out/just push them in further. Controls were in a convenient location with raised edges to locate the exact button. Voice functions tell you where you are in connection and pairing process/etc. There are 3 nodules to sort through with your hands. But this is a quick learning process. Test process: Ear buds were used with 7 various BT 5.0 devices and a trip outside the house to test distance from transceiver devices. This included phone calls, music files, and Facetime! Be advised that BT 5.0 and 5.1 are the standard and any devices purchased should have this basic new standard built into the hardware. Mute slider button works as advertised. Voice directions over ear buds for most functions. Stereo separation was outstanding! XBOX wired connection worked as advertised. Lossless audio was used for all audio tests except TV and gaming. TV sound was superior to my receiver using external speakers. This is true of most quality headphones. Sound was warm and bass was slightly muted but clean. Holding down the up and down volume buttons advances tracks. Range was 15-45 feet with walls and obstructions. 85 feet line of site! Best range was with iPhone BT 5.0. Range was less than my large over the ear BT 5.0 headphones. Not an issue if you are playing games or have your mobile device with you. Thoughts: XBOX controller can connect via BT to a PC but nothing can connect to an XBOX controller or console via BT directly. Only specifically designed headphones/equipment for XBOX will work for wireless. No background noise suppression for phone calls. Driver/software updates: Did not find any FW updates for this device. some people prefer earphones than a regular headset, Jlabs wireless gaming earphones are great, also function as a regular wireless earphone on to go to play mobile games or listen to music. Pros - light weight earphone, you’ll almost forget that you have it wrapped around your neck - bluetooth works easy and connects without any issues - this earphones it comes with microphone, tested while playing Warzone on console they did confirmed that I sounded fine - for $50 audio quality sounded good, gaming and listening to audio wirelessly do have 2 different audio clarity from my experience ( on gaming just don’t select 3D audio for headset on game settings, the audio won’t sound right from testing experience) Cons - listening to music seems a bit flat when comparing it on gaming, Bass doesn’t have much depth and the audio level doesn’t get loud as I would expect, not saying it’s bad it’s good audio balance that I wish it carry a little more punch - i enjoying listening to my Beats earphones while it’s charging, sadly Jlab earphones wouldn’t let me listen and charge at the same time, I thought that was standard these days I remember the days when gaming earphones wasn’t even a thing, the fact that you can go to gym listen to music and play/talk with this earphones once you game at home is a huge advantages to some people. overall I recommend this product for the price you’re paying.

The JLab Play Gaming Wireless Earbud is a Bluetooth wireless earbud aimed at the gaming market. The earbuds are not true wireless since they have the neck strap connecting the buds. The buds come with a micro USB charge cable, an aux cable for when you need a 3.5mm connection, a carrying pouch, and 3 different bud tip sizes. I really like what JLAB has been putting out lately, so I was happy to look at that these earbuds geared towards gaming. Features The buds have a connecting strap that rests on your neck to connect to the 2 sides. Its not rubbery, so it doesn’t stick to the skin on you neck which is nice. The wire for the right bud carries the inline 3-button remote and mute switch. The 3-button remote controls volume, song selection, EQ setting, call controls, and assistant prompt. The buds themselves have magnets, so they stick together when you pop them out of your ears and let them hang – certainly a nice feature. The earbuds come with a good 11 hour battery life – enough to get you through an entire work day on a single charge. The buds connect with the current Bluetooth 5 standard for when you are linking up to a compatible wireless source. The included AUX cable lets you use the buds like regular wired earbuds when hooking up to a gaming system that doesn’t support Bluetooth headsets (I used it for Xbox and Wii U). Using the AUX cable does not use the devices battery up. The buds come with a pretty nice carrying pouch that’s plenty big enough for the buds, charge, and AUX cables. The buds come preloaded with 2 different EQ setups – one for gaming with amplified mids, and one for music with amplified bass and vocals. The default EQ is the gaming, which the buds start in each time they are powered on. Lastly the buds carry an IP55 rating so they should be good for use while working out. Sound I played a number of games across mobile, XBOX, and Wii U, as well as listened to plenty of music and took calls – my PC was unfortunately down for gaming due to equipment failure (RIP PSU). For hooking up to my phone I was able to use Bluetooth, which was easy to pair. Taking calls was easy and the sound was very clear – The mic also did a good job here as well. Listening to music was a pleasure as well since the buds do a really good job of sealing off external noise. Sound quality was good, and did as well as I would expect out of earbuds – bass was a little flat (as expected out of buds) but vocals were great. I only do the most basic gaming on my phone (solitaire is my jam) but I will play a few mobile games here and there. Again, sound quality was good and I didn’t have any issues here. Switching over to XBOX I had to bust out the AUX cord. I plugged the cord in while still connected to my phone’s BT. I hoped that I would be able to connect to both at the same time, and the phone BT would overlay on the game (like cutting game sounds if a call came in). Unfortunately as soon as the AUX cord was connected the buds said “Bye.” With the AUX cord in place the buds acted like a regular pair of wireless buds with the volume controlled by the inline controller on the AUX cord – the 3-button remote is nonfunctional in this mode. Side note here – if your battery in the buds dies you can always pop in the AUX cord and use them like regular earbuds. I took some time to fiddle and adjust my game vs. chat mixer as well as mic monitoring in the audio settings. I played several games with my party of friends – Halo MCC and Fortnite. Unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience in this mode. The mic monitoring was nonexistent and it really threw me off – I hooked up plain phone earbuds and the mic monitoring worked fine on them, same as my larger over the ear headsets. Game sounds for the most part were good, but I had a lot of difficulty balancing chat with game sounds. The chat/vocals always came through really well, but the game sounds were either way too quiet or too loud. I just couldn’t find a good middle ground. There was also the issue of sounds like footsteps. Fortnite footsteps are usually easy to hear with my over-ear sets, but I had a really hard time picking them up with the buds – maybe they lack the sensitivity to reproduce those sounds at low levels? I also felt it was difficult to pick up the direction some sounds were coming from as well. Either way my gameplay was impacted by this, and just didn’t leave me all that impressed. Overall I really liked using the earbuds for non-gaming tasks. Taking calls was a breeze, and music sounded great. Where they struggled was mic monitoring and reproducing low-level sounds – both are big knocks for me. These come with a lot of positives though – Bluetooth and an AUX back-up are something you don’t see every day. Great battery life, nice carrying pouch, and comfortable design are all great selling points. I’m not sure I would get these for their gaming chops, but when viewed as an all-around headset they make a good argument for themselves.

Setup is very easy for JLab Audio - Play Wireless Stereo Gaming Earphone and able to pair with the phone very quickly using Bluetooth. I did a full charge before first use. The audio/call quality is really great. The battery life is good and it lasts around 11 hours as advertised. It can be charged using a micro USB cable. It is really convenient to wear for an extended period of time and did not face any discomfort at all. I have used it with XBOX and Play Station and worked without any issues. Quick mute is a great feature. It is easy to switch between gaming and music. In gaming mode, it does provide increased mid-high frequency response for clear vocals. In Music mode, it amplifies vocals and bass for enhanced music listening. The build quality is excellent and sound quality is outstanding as well. JLab Audio - Play Wireless Stereo Gaming Earphones are excellent value with quality features.

From the PS4 to the Nintendo Switch and my Samsung S10+, these little earphones were great. There are little magnets at the back of your earphones that help keep them from getting tangled when stationary on a desk or somewhere else. The magnet isn't as strong as some other vendors where it would keep them together in a cargo pocket. That might be why they included a little bag to keep them in; the bag is nice with a sturdy zipper. Three different earpiece sizes is necessary because between myself and my child, we needed to swap them out for a better fit between the two of us. It felt like these earphones lasted forever; a few hours here & there before I needed any type of charging. The charging cable didn’t come with an AC Adapter and it’s Micro-USB, which I found a bit strange as USB-C is where most things are headed. Pairing was very simple. There were no issues encountered when pairing via mobile or PC. The wire behind the head pops back into form pretty easily and stays put. I found that the audio coming from the PC via Bluetooth was a bit lacking, so I wouldn't recommend it as a PC gaming audio device. When connecting it to a mobile device, as these earbuds are meant to be the target audience for, I noticed a substantial improvement in audio quality. I can't explain it, but it was great. The same goes for the connection to the PS4 controller; I was quite impressed when playing one of the games in the Need for Speed series. Microphone response was good and there were no complaints about tone or clarity when I was engaged in some Multiplayer games. I liked the quick mute switch, however I wish the audio controls and mute switch were swapped in place. For the price point, these are truly for mobile gaming; I recommend some true on/over ear headphones for PC gaming however.
