Q: For apple CarPlay to work, does it have to be plugged into the usb or is it wireless?
A: On Kenwood's website it states that the model DMX9707s has both wired and wireless options for Apple car play. https://www.kenwood.com/usa/car/navigation_multimedia/dmx9707s/
Q: Does this have a navigation system or just the Maps from Apple Car Play?
A: No, this does not have a built in navigation system, only that available from Apple Car Play or Android Auto. I have built in nav systems in multiple vehicles as well as stand alone GPS systems. In my opinion, the Apple car play solution is far superior. The built in nav systems all require paid updates to keep maps current, and all are difficult to work with. The stand alone systems have lifetime map updates, but you still have to periodically do it. None of them are really good at finding stuff if you don't have the actual address. Also, even if you do have the actual address, often the built in systems won't find it because they are very picky about having the exact correct road nomenclature. I often have to find something via Google maps, then transfer the info to the GPS. Why not just use Google maps via Carplay in the first place? There are also stand alone phone apps where all the maps are downloaded where no cell service is needed such as TomTom Go. This app also works with Carplay. Good luck
A: About 10 second boot time. You can select an option to automatically close the warning. Also it does automatically connect CarPlay.
Q: Does it have a High Definition screen ?
A: It is not HD 1080 buy does have a very good looking display
Q: Would this radio work with current steering wheel controls?
A: Yes, if you buy the correct wiring kit.
Q: Does this read your incoming text messages?
A: If you use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, then yes it does.
A: Yes, Not sure if you have factory navigation but either way it fits with a dash kit and steering wheel control adapter. I use Kenwood DRV-N520 dashcam, which fully integrates and has a specific connector. Any dash cam will work but kenwoods goes together well. I also Use a Idatalink Maestro RR adapter for full factory integration.
Q: Does this unit support wireless Carplay and wireless Android Auto?
A: Yup auto connects quick
