good option for budget conscious buyer

It's your basic ballhead tripod. Build quality is good. It's about what you'd expect at this price point. There's no carry bag included. It has two built-in bubble levels. One is visible when you don't have a camera installed so you can tighten the ball and it should be level (of course also check your camera's level display). The other one is mounted in the knob that tightens the plate in place, so it's only useful when you have the ball oriented such that the plate is vertical. My only complaint is that the plate is made of plastic, although it seems reasonably durable. But third-party metal plates are inexpensive. Also there's no hook on the center column for hanging a weight for added stability. Instead there's a rubber-like stopper that easily removes in case you want to install it upside down for low shots.

Best quality tripod in this price range

Great tripod for the price. It feels durable and it’s made with quality materials that I know will last. Feels very sturdy so I never worry about my camera falling over. The swivel head is also very convenient.

    Sturdy but Heavy

This is a solid tripod, and I have very few issues. Overall, it's a good tripod that I recommend as long as you understand the negatives. It's a trade-off that I think makes this still a very good tripod. 1. The weight: This is a hefty tripod, but it's my fault for not looking closer at the weight. There's a balance in needing that support for the camera but ability to bring it around. I'm recording in weird places (like a roof), meaning it's both an asset and not. 2. Carrying case (or lack there of): I knew that it didn't have a dedicated camera bag, but I didn't know it was such an issue. I travel with it, so I have to put it in my checked bag to carry it. On location, I definitely wish I could put it a travel bad. 3. The release plate: It's not intuitive, so give it a go before you need to use it to really understand how it works. It's not natural for you at all.

    Manfrotto 290

It's a well built tripod, i haven’t used it much yet. I'd recommend it for people with a dslr/mirrorless camera and not a super long or heavy lens.
