American Jazz Quintet - Gulf Coast Jazz 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Ellis Marsalis, Alvin Batiste, Harold Battiste & Ed Blackwell, with the addition of bass players, formed the New Orleans based InchAmerican Jazz QuintetInch when not playing Dixieland. They were a well honed bebop and modern jazz quintet that created a unique brand of modern jazz in the Crescent City during the 1950's. Few recordings of the group were made so this is both rare and as can be judged from the music, quite exciting. Recorded in stereo in 1959 at Cosimo's Recording Studio, this CD presents the first of two sessions produced by Bumps Blackwell for Andex, but never released until now. Album Tracks 1. Punchin' 2. Monkey Do 3. Venetian Sky 4. Fourth Month 5. Capetown 6. Ohadi 7. Stephanie 8. Tribute 9. Nevermore 10. Three Musketeers 11. Apartment 12. Chatterbox

American Jazz Quintet - Gulf Coast Jazz - Wade in the Water - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The second of music from the Gulf Coast Jazz sessions comes from the February 23, 1959 session at Cosimo's studio in New Orleans. Recorded in stereo for on Andex Records, some of the tracks on this album were released on Bumps Blackwell's Famous Records tag. Like the first session, Ellis Marsalis, Alvin Batiste, Harold Battiste, Ed Blackwell and Richard Payne or William Swanson provide a very interesting program of the unique jazz that these musicians were the primary proponents of. These treasures should not be ignored. Album Tracks 1. Wade in the Water One 2. Lil David Two 3. I Got Shoes Three 4. When the Saints Go Marching in Four 5. Nigeria Five 6. Reminiscence Six 7. Sinner Don't Let This Harvest Pass Seven 8. Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen Eight 9. Vales de Batiste Nine 10. Harold's Church Ten 11. Selassie Eleven
