The phono section is good as is the Marantz sound. What I don't like is trying to use it without it controlling the TV. I get the ARC thing, but sometimes I want to use the TV speakers alone.

Hello JacobH, thank you for purchasing the Marantz Stereo 70s Receiver. We are delighted to hear that you are enjoying the Marantz sound. For HDMI ARC, please check your television's HDMI Control options in the menu. Depending on your television, HDMI Control customization may be available to meet your needs. The Stereo 70s also includes an Optical input. Using the optical input may also help you achieve your desired function. If you need further assistance with the setup, please feel free to contact our Marantz Support team at 800-654-6633. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/marantz.png" alt="marantz" title="marantz" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" />

I am an audiophile. I was in between the Yamaha rn-800 and the S70 stereo. I have a pair of R3 Kef book shelves and a SVS-1000sb. Overall chose the Marantz. App works well and it is easy to set up. Incredible sound great power. Love the A/B option. My Record player sounds great through this!

Picked up this reciever and NR1200 to test side by side. Feel like this is likely a review a lot of people are looking forward to as there is very little out at the moment on this device. Excellent build quality and sounds as good as it looks especially with music. If you can force video to stream in stereo or "original" sound is great too. In the event you're watching a movie or show that is mixed for 5.1 or greater the device can sound hallow as there are not DTS or ATMOS mix options. HEOS / Apple Air Play / IOS Marantz remote app all work without any fuss. Sound is everything you would expect from Marantz. Running a pair of Klipsch 8000F II's and a REL T5X via high level connection. I'll be honest it was really difficult for me to make out significant difference between sound quality of this device vs the NR1200. The setup GUI was significantlly more well thought out and visually better on the 70s. The remote is miles ahead. The 70s is a better looking center piece and knobs have a thick "resistance" to them when they turn and don't feel cheap. My main input method is streaming to the device via Google's music services / Tidal / Phono / Optical to TV. The 70s ultimately sold me based on look and future proofing. The device really should be about 200.00 dollars cheaper though as the price tag is the biggest hurdle to get over. Would love to get a well though out review from a super user of this 70s that tested the 8k upscaling etc... I just don't have a use for it at this time. Would also really like to test this vs the cinema in the event that I give up on being a 2.1 enthusiast one day and would prefer 5.1 upgrade path.

The Marantz receiver was easy to set up and the sound is excellent. Very similar to a Marantz 2250B I bought in 1976. Could not be happier with the quality. Setting up Spotify was a breeze, and you do not need to connect to a TV to set this equipment up.

Excellent sounding amp. Purchased open box but arrived looking new. One of the most difficult amps for me to set up. Requires connecting to a TV to set up. Instructions could be better.

Excellent but I feel like the Sonos amp is cheaper and sounds practically identical

Hello,
There are plenty of difference between the Stereo 70 and the Sono's amp.
The Marantz Stereo 70 offers 6 HDMI inputs, speaker A and B, HDMI monitor out, Pre output for 2 subs, Zone 2, main zone preouts, a Phono input and more. While the Sono's amp is a good product, it is not the same type of product that the Stereo 70 is.

Purchased this receiver/amp for it's size. I needed a short height unit and this fit the bill perfectly. I was surprisingly delighted a at not only the quality of the sound, but the improvement in the onboard technology, compared to the 90's Nakamichi unit it replaced. On-screen configuration, Bluetooth, WiFi, lots of streaming options, remote control from my phone, multi-room speakers... Everything you could want in a small, two channel amp.

Great unit. Needed a 2-channel/2-zone receiver for high-quality stereo music, but also high-quality sound when watching movies etc. without a traditional 5.1/7.1 speaker setup. This unit fits the bill - combined it with a pair of B&W in-ceiling speakers and the sound is fantastic, and while watching movies don't have to fuddle around with settings etc. It just sounds good. Setup was incredibly easy and intuitive.
