About this product
Mirai is a 2018 Japanese animated adventure fantasy comedy film written and directed by Mamoru Hosoda and produced by Studio Chizu (known for Belle, Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast). The film stars the voices of Moka Kamishiraishi, Haru Kuroki and Gen Hoshino. It was met with critical acclaim and became nominated for an Academy Award in 2019 for Best Animated Feature Film. Additionally, the movie received an Annie Award in the same year. Mirai follows the story of a four-year-old boy named Kun whose world is turned upside down when he meets his new baby sister. After venturing into a magical garden, Kun encounters strange guests from the past and future, including his sister Mirai, as a teenager. Together, Kun and teenage Mirai go on a journey through time and space, uncovering their family's incredible story. The soundtrack for the film was written by Masakatsu Takagi, who had previously scored Hosoda's Wolf Children and The Boy and the Beast. His work for Studio Chizu has been praised for it's magical and whimsical atmosphere. For Mirai specifically, this dreamy aesthetic was mixed with a contemporary sound and made to be simple in tone and be reflective of family. Mirai is available as a limited edition of 500 numbered copies on turquoise colored vinyl and includes a 4-page booklet. * 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL * INCLUDES 4-PAGE BOOKLET * ACADEMY AWARD-NOMINATED ANIMATED FEATURE FILM BY STUDIO CHIZU * ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK BY MASAKATSU TAKAGI (WOLF CHILDREN, THE BOY AND THE BEAST) * LIMITED EDITION OF 500 NUMBERED COPIES ON TURQUOISE COLORED VINYLTrack listing SIDE A1. Akira Mitake, who played keyboards and violin in the early 80's new wave band 'Ippudo,' known for the hit 'Sumire September Love,' created this original soundtrack for NHK's program 'Nihon Sono Kokoro to Katachi (Japan It's Heart and Form)' a compilation of Japanese art history. This work was recorded with a different approach from the band's musicality and the song 'Kawano Nagareno Youni' provided to Misora Hibari, and when 'Mono (object)', which seems to be about Japanese beauty, is replaced with 'Oto (sound)'. A masterpiece of Japanese ambient/new age music, all of which are composed and arranged by himself, and are all about the expansive 'Joukei (landscape)'. Tracklisting Side A1. Himawari2. Double vinyl LP pressing. Mass Hysterism in Another Situation captures Masayuki Takayanagi's New Direction Unit in it's final incarnation, at an apex in it's development; it also finds Takayanagi, one of Japan's great iconoclastic artists, at a moment of crucial artistic transformation.
50 years ago, Hokkaido-born singer-songwriter Morio Agata released his debut single, Sekishoku Ereji (Red Elegy), an emotive, shuffling piano ballad that (shockingly) sold half a million copies in Japan. While he would never have another Top-40 hit, Agata would spend the next half century issuing a series of idiosyncratic, experimental pop albums. Today, he's a beloved cult figure, still actively touring and recording in his seventies. Arguably the biggest left-turn of Agata's early career, however, came in 1979, when legendary Vanity Records paired Agata with major players from his tag's roster and the Osaka punk scene for an impromptu recording session. An impressive list of musicians took part (SAB, Yukio Fujimoto (Normal Brain), Masahiro Kitada (INU), Chie Mukai, and others) and even though they all came from different wings of the underground music scene, together they built an arresting, minimalistic bedrock of synthesized and acoustic sounds for Agata to work his magic over.
