A: Unfortunately, it will not.
Q: Is this model water resistant?
A: Yes, they are water resistant, not water proof.
Q: Do you have to have a license to have a radio And is this military grade
A: It is not military grade and it does require a GMRS license from the FCC which can be reached at 888-225-5322 or apply online at fcc.gov
Q: does this really get a 40 mile range i need 1 for me and another for son whom is 38 miles away
A: Unless you and your son live on a mountain top, over open water, or in the desert with no obstructions between the two of you this radio will not provide you with the "up to 40 mile" advertising range. You might look at the MXT400 MicroMobile and install the MXTA26 antenna on the top of your homes to provide this type of range. Additionally, the use of a repeater would be recommended as well.
