MISS BALA stars Gina Rodriquez and one of her besties-girlfriends. The movie starts by setting up the ensuing plot. Then, the film progresses nicely step-by-step to complications, challenges, drama, counterpoints, and then,... a few more complexities. Then, about half-way through the film, Miss BALA (Gina Rodriguez) enters a south-of-the-border Beauty Pageant Contest in order to get into the "Inside-Circles" of where her friend might be kept hostage. Contrary to the title, this is NOT a redux-copy of the highly successful Anglocized Sandra Bullock's dramatic romantic comedy, "Miss Congeniality!" -- (1,2,&3!) The Beauty Contest here is NOT the point of this film! Hence, there are only a few scenes of it! All the storyline plot Prior to the Beauty Pageant Contest and After the Pageant is succinctly and adequately written and acted without belaboring the viewer with excessive boring scenes.... eventually coming to the denouement. This film has some drama and action, but nothing that is "gripping-your-knuckles-white!" The point of this film is near the last 1/4 of the movie, with the line about "the bullet," ("la bala!"). The whole film's cinematography is excellent with some great shots of the outdoors. The countryside, the inner-city scenery and indoors of houses, and various "room" shots are done tastefully, too. The whole film is not too darkly lit, and 99% of the film is bright enough for depicting the proper atmosphere of the various scenes. The cameras are used very aesthetically whether the scenes are of the countryside, houses, indoor rooms, people's faces and bodies, or close-ups of the all the central characters. Gina Rodriguez is so hot! As a result of ALL the expert "pleasing-camera" work and the well-written story, the movie moves along at just the right pace and is never boring in spite of the common hackneyed themes of sexual favors granted to those in power and those individuals taken hostage using fear and intimidation. Nothing in this film appears "seedy," nor is it "whitewashing" emotionally difficult scenes. On the contrary, the movie is just a pleasant viewing (diversionary) experience (amid an mild incursion into the underbelly-politic of those in power). From my point of view, the film is definitely contrived and "designed!" -- It is designed to showcase the beautiful and talented eye-candy, "newcomer-to-acting" Gina Rodriguez! I hope she continues to work and makes better and better acting performances!

This is a fast paced action film with some emotion core, not the strongest story but it is held together with the amazing gina rodriguez's performance, so excited to see what she does next. do check out the original Mexican 2011 version for a better ending.

This is a pretty good movie that builds to a revenge end that will keep you on the edge. It is made with fairly new Actors and Director from a Mexican based story/movie. I do believe that we will be seeing these people names in future movies.

Did not see this in the theater. Wish I did. At least seen on big screen at home. This is a good movie. If you missed on the big big screen. Its a must on a decent sized one at home. must buy. Action is good. Dialogue is done well also.

The movie has a feel like "Sicario" done a little softer. Yeah we've seen some action like this before, this movie has a little twist on how things move along and after the first 5-10 minutes I was hooked, the characters were interesting, the acting was above par for this type of movie.

Gina Rodriguez is the new version of Tom Cruiz, Liam Neeson, and Harrison Ford, all wrapped into one. Charisma and smarts. A Survivor.

I know this movie didn’t get great reviews but I enjoyed the action and the lead actors. The antagonist is gorgeous, which motivated me to purchase this movie. LOL

If you watch the trailer of this movie it actually make you believe this movie is good pack with action, in reality is not. Most of the action scenes you will see in trailer that actual movie have a lots of dialog and not much action. The acting also was very off Gina Rodriguez is not the action hero type she needs to keep doing that Jane the Virgin show and leave action for someone else. Overall is more like 2.5 stars in my opinion, not a must have for movie collectors.

Good movie make you wonder when you go to country that has a look of drug cartels and the issues that come with that. How unsafe it is.

This is a good movie from the beginning to the end and a good storyline, the character that played in the movie shes tough and brave.

This movie had a lot of twist and turned out to be pretty good. I watched a couple of time and rooted for the Heroine...

My wife and I were able to see this movie in our local movie theater and were happy we were able to purchase it at a good price from BestBuy and we are looking forward to watching it as often as we want.

This was a great I like Gina Rodriguez acting in it, but it seemed more when having a girls night in lots of action.

I saw the original movie it was a great movie, but this one was a little better than the original loved it.

This movie was fantastic it kept moving and the action scenes kept everything going exciting!!

But it was nowhere as good as the original Spanish one. It’s still worth a check out tho
