Why? Because the coins are plastic, instead of cardboard punch-outs. There is a fitted slot to store each character. The instruction booklet is textured, an info page for each character and spaces for your new sticker collection. And nice little homes for the board, dice, and coins. Keeps everything neat. These little conveniences & improvements over the standard edition are definitely nice. Just not I paid $40 nice. Glad I got it on clearance, it is definitely worth $18.99 +tax. DEFINITELY.

Similar enough to monopoly that it feels familiar, different enough that it feels new. Simple and fun fun game that can be played in a relatively quickly. Pieces are detailed and fun to play with it.

I'm a fan of Nintendo characters, so this was appealing to me from the get-go, but as I researched this game, I found that the consensus was that this version had fixed many of the issues that bogged down the original version of Monopoly - namely, the hours it takes to play and the complexity of the rules. This game takes away those issues and creates a truly fun experience. I bought this game and played it with my wife (who isn't a Monopoly fan) and my parents (who aren't Nintendo fans). Everybody had an enjoyable experience, and we ended up playing it two separate times in a 12-hour period. To me, that's a good game. I docked this game 1 star because I felt that the character abilities were a little lopsided. For instance, it is far easier to win this game while playing as Donkey Kong than it is with Yoshi just due to the nature of their "power-ups." Though I am appreciative the novelty of each character having specific nuances, I would've liked a little more of a fair playing field. If you add the "expansion pack" figurines to the mix, then it compounds this problem quite a bit as the original characters from this game aren't nearly as powerful.

My 8 yr old loves all things MARIO. We enjoy playing this game as a family. It’s a fun twist on the classic. The additional packs of characters are a cute variation on the game though at 5 bucks a pop, it drives the cost up. I also think the collectors addition is worth the extra money bc it keeps everything tidy and has special slots for those additional characters I mentioned. Bought it for my niece too

It uses coins instead of bills, there's a special ability for every character you can choose, and a Mario Kart-esque attack die, so the rules are a little different. Despite that, it's simplified because there's no extra houses on the properties, and best of all with the Boss system (fight one boss every time you pass Go), the games don't go on for hours! It was great. And there are extra figures you can buy for the game to go along with the five included, so that's fun. I hope they make more versions of this Gamer's Monopoly, because this one is great.

We just picked this up recently and though the high price tag is to be expected, with it being a Nintendo themed game, it was a blast. Plays a lot more simple than regular monopoly but it's easy to pick up and learn, and games still take just as long.

This game is SO MUCH FUN! We played for the first time on Thanksgiving. It took a few minutes to get used to it. It's like a mix of Mario Kart, Super Mario, and Monopoly. It was great fun! A variety of ages played and everyone had a great time. It wasn't as long as a regular Monopoly game which was also nice. We can't wait for a big crowd to be at our house to play again.

Purchased this game awhile back and then recently, purchased it for a friend as a gift. REALLY fun game! Not very hard to follow, the instructions are clear. Great game for 2 players so if you do not have a big group, this game is still very enjoyable. Each character has their own special abilities and there is a card that goes with each one....makes it easy to switch characters and know how to play them. I love the fact that you can purchase additional characters for like $3.00 to $4.00 a pop. However, it kind of makes it a bit more expensive especially since they seem to be making a lot of different characters for the game. Still, this game is a good purchase and fun to play! Definitely recommended!

This version differs from the standard version in that the coins are plastic rather than labeled cardboard pieces. Also Boswer is an exclusive character in this edition. Bowser Jr. is also exclusive in this edition although as the Final Boss (Bowser is the final boss in the standard edition.) Also the game board is a light blue with "Monopoly Gamer" printed in black lettering. The standard edition is just a plain black game board underneath if Im not mistaken. Also in the collectors edition are empty spaces to store all additional character tokens. The instruction booklet is now more in depth. Has mini character biographies and also doubles as a sticker book. Best Buy has recently replenished all character tokens (Gamer Packs).

This Monopoly Gamer is very different than the "normal" Monopoly game and other Monopoly games we have (i.e. Empire). It is interesting and easy to play, but some strategy is involved. My 10 year old likes it and so do we.

This new take on Monopoly gives the game a much-needed update. It plays a lot faster. And giving it the Mario theme just makes it more fun!

Was different than the normal monopoly game. My boys ages eight and five still enjoyed it very much and they love the characters .

I did have initial reservations about getting this Mario Monopoly game as a Christmas Gift. based on the game pieces they chose. After some research and actually playing the game it is actually a good time and am more than willing to buy the additional game pieces.

My family wants to play Monopoly now with Monopoly Gamer. It changes the game enough to make it fresh and fun for all ages. No more bills, but coins is a nice touch. Price is a little high, but worth it for me and my family.
