Not a Pokémon clone
With that being said this game has its own identity, however if you are into pet collecting and raising this does have that in it. Charming characters and story, good graphics, and a ton to do. If you like monster hunter this is not like the others but an rpg where you have a story, hatch, collect, and level up your monsters you find. Yes there are items to use, armor, and accessories you need to better equip as well as gathering materials for better armor, gear, and also getting them through Subquest. Great game definitely a must buy

Awesome game, I hope they do more.
This game is so much fun. I have played it for hours and hours. I have a few issues with the way you choose your eggs and some of the controls are a pain, but nothing worth knocking a star off. This game is a mix of Monster Hunter series and Pokemon, so it will appeal and be like by a large crowd. The amiibos for this game are amazing as well, if you can find them.

Not just another Pokemon clone
As a fan of both Pokemon and Monster Hunter, MH Stories was on my radar the moment I saw it's announcement. I mostly expected a Pokemon clone with Monster Hunter elements sprinkled into it but instead it feels different. It borrows very few conventions from Pokemon that Monster Hunter Stories stands strong on it's own legs. I would venture to say that it is 85% MH and 15% Pokemon as far as that goes. The game revolves around a village of Monster riders who were attacked by a Nargacuga shrouded in a purple mist. Your overarching task is to find it's source and eliminate it. Like proper Monster Hunter games you outfit your character with giant weapons and armor and take on quests from the quest board. However instead of one quest at a time you can take on as many as possible as these serve as the sidequests to the main game. Once you are geared up and quest log filled you now take on the open world. Along side you is your monster. These serve many purposes. Battle partner, open world mount, item seeker, vine climber, swimmer, etc. With the ability to have 5 with you at a time, your Monsters can help you traverse the open world with their special abilities (Think HMs from Pokemon). In battle, monsters use attacks and abilities at their own discretion unless commanded to do different while you perform your own attack/ability. If either you or a monster is downed you will pop right back up and use a heart. You have 3 hearts between you and your monsters which act as lives more or less. Once all three are depleted you lose. These can be recharged in towns. Combat revolves around a Rock, Paper, Scissors system that is easy to use and understand. After a while you will be able to mount your monster in combat and use powerful special attacks. Monsters are gained from finding and entering monster dens and collecting their eggs. This become a very fun and addictive side of the game as each monster hatched has different passives. Overall this game is very enjoyable. It has more than enough Monster Hunter elements to keep it true to it's series and enough Pokemon elements to scratch that itch. Overall I have been very much enjoying this game.
