I'm also a YouTube Content Creator who has listened to many sound systems in all price ranges for years including full home theater systems. I have a full unboxing video and sound test comparison available on my YouTube Channel (Iceman and Bob Tech and Gaming). I own this system with two 8 inch subs and two 12 inch subwoofers. No other packaged system has the power and subwoofer combinations like this system, even in 2026 and beyond (at the time of this review). The Dragon is absolutely amazing and is a beast of a system, especially with the 12's. The system provides perfect bass when turned all the way down for daily news and tv watching for instance. Turning the bass all the way down is still more than enough even for movies, but when turned up, they really push out power and you can feel the bass in your chest, especially in the seats near the subs. They hit hard, yet clean and I have yet to hear any distortion or bottoming out. I believe I only slightly heard that issue with the 2 8's that came with the system, and since the 12's can do the heavy hitting, the mid bass and etc sounds even better on the 8's since they can focus on that. My entire family is REALLY happy with this system, and it lives up to the name...guests are repeatedly impressed and blown away with movies, tv, music, and gaming. If you're concerned that the 12's are too much, they aren't especially with lower bass settings. They really give you the full home theater effect and you'll hear and feel every sound effect that normally gets missed by lesser systems. During normal TV, news, sports, and movies air on TV or streaming packages, the bass is just right. You'd be surprised how calm the Dragon can be, but if you want it to breathe fire bass wise, it can easily do so. If you The Dragon without the 12's, you MUST get them or at the very least, buy the newer packages that come with a single 12 inch, dual, or all 4. You will not want anything else after owning The Dragon with any 12 inch combination unless you want more 12's to add, and any new system even in 2026 and beyond at this point won't be able to compete bass and volume wise unless they're able to offer 4 subwoofers. You're essentially future proof against virtually anything new released as well!

Let me begin by saying that my review will not do this sub justice. This sub doesn’t speak for itself; it speaks loud and thunderous. It has changed my entire home theater experience for the best. I originally bought the Nakamichi Dragon with the dual 8” subs when it first came out a few years ago. I was more than pleased with its performance at that point. Then the 12” sub was released a while after; upon which, I almost pulled the trigger but waited until now to buy it. Hindsight is a bummer. I only wish I had bought this bad boy 12” sub when it was originally released. But better late than never. This 12” sub is ridiculous. It’s changed the way I view any tv program from watching a stinking regular tv commercial to watching sports or movies or playing video games. Talk about being in the action. It’s unbelievable. Speaking of which, Nakamichi has been with me all the way. Their customer service is beyond outstanding. They reached out to me from my purchase date until today to make sure I was pleased and to recommend movies to watch and music to listen to and to see if I needed any assistance in the setup process. They have been insanely amazing. If you need them, they will be there for you immediately. I feel like I should be a paid sponsor for them. Sadly I’m not, but I would be. At one point, my brother was visiting my house to check out the new and improved version of the Dragon with the 12” sub, and he was convinced that my Nakamichi Dragon setup with the dual 8” subs and now the new addition of the incredible 12” sub was superior to his theater room in his house with built in speakers and an av receiver. He said the Dragon’s 12” sub addition to my system blew his house down on listening experience. It’s amazing to me, only one additional 12” sub made all the difference. It’s mind boggling. I have dual 8” subs with the addition of only one 12” sub. Just one. I can’t imagine if I bought another 12” sub. I should. I will. The bass is just booming. Thunderous. Deep. Clear. I feel it in my chest. But in the best way. You should feel it too. Boom.

If you are on the fence about upgrading to these 12", I can tell you without a doubt, that it is indeed a MUST upgrade if you have the original dragon with the dual 8". I have had my Dragon system since they came out with the limited edition. I loved the dual 8's but some fell short on some movies and music. I saw that it was later fixed on a firmware update but I never got around to updating my firmware. Now since the upgrade, I have the two 12's in the front and the 8's in the back. I am still calibrating the system but it's AMAZING! It changes the whole personality of the Dragon. You will not be disappointed! Jose and the rest of the Nakamichi team were very helpful. I can't wait to save up and get two more 12's to see how quad 12's would be.

I own the Nakamichi Dragon with the 8inch subs. It’s a fantastic and premium unit already. It surrounds and rumbles your room giving you a true home theater experience. The release of the 12inch subs and option to expand on the existing system had been tempting since release. The only downfall was the premium price it would cost you. I patiently waited and purchased while on a great deal. I had expectations of the system getting better, but honestly, how much can a single sub improve the system? The answer…..A LOT! The rumbling and complete sound profile from the lows to the highs is something that needs to be experienced. In my medium sized basement with 8inch ceilings, this system has been perfect. I placed the 8inch subs in the front and the 12inch sub between the rows of couches. It rumbles both couches. It truly has made the movie experience better than any local theater. If you have a Dragon and are on the edge on the 12inch subwoofer, save up the money and do it! The system evolves.

My current setup just got an additional expansion, and the sound quality is now next level! So incredibly pleased with it.

Very nice and clean bass, that rumbles the floor. Great for listening to music and especially my movies. Nakamichi does it again, with a perfect compliment to the Dragon soundbar.
