Of Montreal - White Is Relic / Irrealis Mood - VINYL LP

Limited edition colored vinyl LP pressing, includes digital download. Innocence Reaches begins with a query. InchHow do you identify?Inch coos a robotic voice over a strikingly modern mix of bright synthpop and surging rave. The question too feels very of it's time-as outdated ideas about gender and attraction are being overturned-but it's also a fair ask whenever Of Montreal debuts an album. The project's 14th LP follows two full decades of mercurial creative mania swallowing up '60s psych-pop, Prince-ly funk, and glammy prog in turn; morphing freely between full-band affair and cloistered confessional booth; comprising lyrics both painfully personal and absurdly fantastical; and recently drawing site-specific inspiration from culture capitals like San Francisco or New York City. The thread that runs through it all is Athens, GA's Kevin Barnes, and Innocence Reaches finds him at his most light-hearted in years, working a Parisian stint, Top 40 sounds, and his newfound single status into the kaleidoscopic swirl. Even as he continues to sift the sonic and emotional detritus of his past, Barnes sums up his current mood in the opener's title Inchlet's relate.Inch Innocence Reaches features darker moments to be sure-isolation, anger, indifference, and the feeling that, like a Truffaut film, madness lurks just outside the frame-but as Barnes explains, InchEpiphany comes from breakdown. If you can stay open and vulnerable, the nebulous becomes transparent. That's one of the magical aspects of writing from personal life.Inch Album Tracks 1. Let's Relate 2. It's Different for Girls 3. Gratuitous Abysses 4. My Fair Lady 5. Les Chants de Maldoror 6. A Sport and a Pastime 7. Ambassador Bridge 8. Def Pacts 9. Chaos Arpeggiating 10. Nursing Slopes 11. Trashed Exes 12. Chap Pilot

Aethermead, the newest offering and 20th full-length album from Of Montreal, finds the band revisiting sounds from their early years, while still pushing artistic boundaries with their iconic style of pop & indie rock. Celebrated for their unique and prolific output, frontperson and primary songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Kevin Barnes recorded the album at Brooklyn's Honey Jar studios with audio engineer, Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, Toro y Moi), with basic tracking done live to a 16-track tape machine with Barnes' longtime live band. InchI wanted to capture a quick moment together and to make on-the-fly, spontaneous creative decisions,Inch says Barnes. InchIt felt very liberating and exhilarating to have to start and finish an album in a month's time.Inch The result shimmers with indie pop elements of their 2004 , Satanic Panic in the Attic, as well as the raw, live energy of 2013's Lousy With Sylvianbriar. Inspired partly from a recent move to Brooklyn, NY and a yearning for community, the album marks a shift in Barnes' daily routines, with the album's title referencing a section of Prospect Park called the Nethermead, where Barnes walks their dog every day. InchI started a meditation practice soon after moving to help me self-regulate,Inch says Barnes. InchI began to imagine I was sending all my destructive and useless thoughts/energies into the ether.Inch Barnes' beautiful and melodic chord progressions are on full display with tracks like InchAlready Dreaming,Inch as well as the straight-up rock & roll banger InchTake The Form.Inch Other highlights include the loungey InchMy Zhe Zhe,Inch as well as the bluntly sexual lead single, InchWhen.Inch From the breakthrough brilliance of 2007's Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? to a steady run of boundary-pushing releases, Of Montreal have remained fearless sonic shapeshifters-equally at home crafting hook-laden

Of Montreal's follow-up to Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?, Skeletal Lamping picks up where that masterpiece left off - delivering 15 extremely catchy and packed with slinky grooves that demand a physical response. Instantly ingratiating hooks abound as Kevin Barnes' compositions constantly mutate and shape-shift in ways that defy conventional pop song structure and album sequencing. Skeletal Lamping also broke new ground in terms of album packaging, allowing fans to purchase the album as a t-shirt, tote bag, button set, paper lantern, or wall decal set (in addition to the more traditional vinyl and CD formats). Now, one more option has been added to the list - a beautiful picture disc that showcases the iconic artwork of David Barnes and Gemini Tactics.
