To celebrate it's ruby anniversary, Garry Bushell - who put together that very first Oi compilation in 1980 - has teamed up with Pirates Press Records to present this superb new album Oi! 40 Years Untamed. This hard-hitting collection features exclusive, unheard songs from the Oi pioneers, and original tracks from younger, up-and coming bands from around the world. Oi was a form of raw working class punk that developed in England as a reaction against the dilution of punk's original ethics and energy. Socialist poet Garry Johnson says InchOi wasn't about fashions or hair-cuts or dodgy politics. Oi was the reality of punk mythology. But they had an authenticity that the punk pioneers could only dream of. Consequently the Oi sound was harder, the choruses bigger, the anger more real. Silverstein's second album, Discovering The Waterfront, features singles InchSmile In Your SleepInch and their biggest hit to date, InchMy Heroine.Inch The Top 40 Billboard 200 Album was originally released in 2005, and built off their explosive debut and added elements of punk rock. The fast-paced and hook-filled album saw the band achieve new levels of success, which cemented the band's position as leaders of the post hardcore/emo scene. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
