Hands down this is fhe best performing AVR i have purchased to date. Out of the box my klipsch system sounded noticeably better, now add the Dirac and room correction it comes with and fhe calibration i used the mic on my lap top the long way slow and steady to be certain and you can tweak the settings after its completed unlike other AVR brands which aside from the crossover and what not dont allow it. If this AVR is in your budget i highly recommend.

Sound quality is amazing out of the box with a 7.2.4 system, even without DIRAC calibration (at least for now). Video output to tv is at the full 120hz for both xbox series x and ps5, and EARC actually works with no issues (at least not at this point.) Build quality is phenomenal ans setup is a breeze with the receiver’s OSD. I originally upgraded from the RZ50 because there was no need for a secondary amp to drive the additional speakers, but i found the sound quality to be even better. I am absolutely thrilled with this receiver.

I recently upgraded from a Yamaha RX-A3080 to the Onkyo TX-RZ70, primarily for its extensive HDMI 2.1 support. My journey to this unit wasn’t straightforward—I initially tried the Sony AZ5000ES, which came highly recommended for its 360SSM feature. While the sound field was impressive, the Sony had too many quality issues. The unit kept making noises when switching inputs and bizarrely struggled with eARC on my Sony TV. After returning it, I decided to give the Onkyo TX-RZ70 a shot, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. First off, this unit is a beast—nearly 50lb of pure, sturdy craftsmanship. Lifting it into place was a workout in itself, but once installed, its weight became a testament to its build quality. The TX-RZ70 is built like a tank—no vibrations, just pristine audio. It feels solid and well-engineered, making it clear that Onkyo put serious thought into the design and construction. In terms of performance, the Onkyo TX-RZ70 is unmatched. The HDMI 2.1 connections are abundant and work flawlessly, making it perfect for the modern home theater setup. The HDMI eARC handshake with my Sony A95L was seamless, which was a relief after my experience with the Sony AZ5000ES. The included Dirac Live room correction is exceptional—much better than the YPAO I was accustomed to with Yamaha. I used the Mac app for setup, which I highly recommend, and the results were astounding. My PS5 and Xbox games have never looked better, with buttery smooth 120fps, and movies sound more immersive than ever. The audio is spacious, detailed, and gives a sense of presence that makes you feel like you're right in the middle of the action. However, it's not all perfect. The design of the TX-RZ70 is quite plain—there’s nothing visually impressive about it, so it’s best kept inside a cabinet. The menus are also a pain to navigate; they are not user-friendly at all, and many controls are disabled in certain modes. For example, tone controls are unavailable when Dirac is engaged, which can be frustrating if you’re trying to tweak vocal clarity or bass levels. Setup is also quite complex and might be overwhelming for those not familiar with advanced AV systems. Despite these minor drawbacks, the TX-RZ70 delivers sound quality that is nothing short of nirvana. Auro 3D is mind-blowing, and having Dirac at this price point is simply unbeatable. The Class AB amplification sounds phenomenal—so much so that I had to lower the volume considerably to maintain NAF (Neighbor Acceptance Factor). Initially, I struggled with vocal clarity due to the limitations on tone controls, but after some adjustments—turning up the center channel and lowering others—I achieved the clarity I was looking for. The value of the Onkyo TX-RZ70 is simply unmatched. It’s THX certified, comes with Dirac Live, Auro 3D, and supports IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Vision/Atmos, DTS:X, and more! I strongly recommend using the Mac app for Dirac (it’s free) and investing in a UMIK calibration microphone to truly optimize your setup. The sound quality, feature set, and performance you get at this price point make it an easy recommendation for anyone serious about their home theater experience. Verdict: If you’re looking for a receiver that delivers top-tier audio and future-proof HDMI capabilities, the Onkyo TX-RZ70 is a fantastic choice. I ultimately returned this item for the Sony. I had too many issues with Dirac Live. I used the auto level calibration and it kept giving me errors when I went to do the regular calibration after it. I paid extra for Bass Control. Once I finally finished Dirac (with an error), I went to use Bass Control as it prompted me. However, each time, it stopped with an Error. Too many errors. Other than that, it did power my Martin Logans without issue. I am hoping the Sony, which costs significantly more, will be a better option for home theater than Dirac. Keep in mind, Dirac is it's own company. However, the error issues in the Onkyo were too big of a pain. Dirac did refund me for Bass Control, which is nice.

I replaced my 11-year-old Onkyo TX NR64 with this and again another great Onkyo product great sound and easy on screen set up. Just make sure you measure your space this is a big boy very deep.

Greetings everyone. I had a Yamaha RX-A2060 that I loved, but it broke, now I bought the Onkyo TX-RZ70 wow I love it!!!! And I'm still learning with the receiver, the first calibration with Dirac completely eliminated the bass, but I looked for a video on YouTube and managed to tweak it pretty well and I still have a lot to play with the Onkyo. I downloaded some Harman target curves and I need to apply it to see how it goes lol.

Packed with features and easy to use. The Dolby Atmos sounds amazing. However, my receiver has been in service less than three months and it is already not functioning properly and on a regular basis. Once or twice weekly, when trying to use the "Net" option, I get the message, "Now Initializing." I have to remove power from the unit for about five minutes to reset it and be able to use the Net function. I have done a factory reset and updated the firmware, but the issue persists. I've called Onkyo and, the corrective action is for me to ship and insure, at MY expense, the receiver to a service center for warranty repair. For the very high cost of this receiver, I feel they should be footing the bill for shipping it back for warranty repair. I'm a bit disappointed at that, given it's warranty service for a less than three month old unit. Beyond that, the customer service at Onkyo has a lot left to be desired, when one finally gets to speak with an agent. Overall, the receiver has a lot of great features, reproduces music and movies amazingly, but I am quite displeased with the semi-functional unit that I have on hand. I do not expect something this expensive to fail so prematurely.

Exceptional performance and value. Got this beast on sale and so far really impressed with the sound. Upgraded from the Onkyo TX-NR7100. Really wanted the Dirac live bass control to help dial in my dual subwoofers. I was never satisfied with how they sounded with the 7100. Big improvements using the Dirac bass control. Bass not booming and much tighter sounding. Movies sound great and more detailed over the 7100. No problems with buying from third party seller. Delivered earlier than expected and seller kept me informed of everything. Would highly recommend especially when it’s on sale. Can’t be beat for the price.

Crisp sound, nice lattitude for configuration changes. Good web interface, in addition to screen interface. Be aware of the size, it is a bulky receiver, so plan to place accordingly. Absolutely recommend, also reasonable price for product, relative to competitors (still high investment).

Order the only piece BB received in weeks. Was swapping out an tx-rz920 that uses my outboard monoblocks and mult-ch amps in a 7.2.4 setup. Pretty much a pre-pro with inboards used only for heights. Got the speakers, sources, interconnects all working. Set all the inputs and renamed sources. I updated through a wired NET to latest FW and started my uncalibrated room with atmos demos. After about ~ 15 min into 2ch sources, the unit shutdown. Active hybrid light on, but doesn’t stay powered on. It seems a protection circuit was tripping. I tried to soft reset, then hard power cycle for a few minutes. Removed all connections and left off over night. With only power plugged in, tried to turn on with an instant shutdown. Something went bad. Swapped my rz920 back in and everything worked as before. This was a 1-day old unit received that day. Returned to BB. Too bad BB is not getting new stock since I believe this is a fluke. Support options from the new OnkyoUSA is unknown. My theater room has central HVAC and I have an open multi shelf rack with active cross section cooling. May need to buy from C****** since they have a 60-day return policy too. I would’ve bought the drx-8.4 but C**** only had 1 unit come in and I waited too long. Only other option in the range is the Cinema 40, but need to buy Dirac. At that price, I’d rather try to 8.4 and upgrade to Dirac multi sub if my preferred reseller had inventory. All other dealer have shorter return policies or high shipping cost to my geographically isolated State. I hope BB orders and receives new stock before x-mas. Convenient since BB has brick and mortar stores for return.

amazing sound i have better sound than any IMax and my stereo buff friends who rock other brands agree i have the best system the clarity definition paired with klipse blowes all my friends systems away thank you Onkyo and best buy for making this happen for me i never write reviews but this was worth letting the world know Regards to All Lonnie

This amp replaced a 15+ yr old Denon flagship. Mostly because I wanted the improved HDMI channels (8k) where the old Denon was definitely suffering. Build quality on this RZ70 is incredible (it's also VERY big and heavy), and well worth the money! I used the easy setup with the included calibration microphone as the room is quite odd in shape - 18ft ceilings and an open loft at one end. I paired it with Klipsch reference speakers all around (did not realize they are in the same company now) Seems to work well as the surround is very impressive! Well recommended!

[Employee of bestbuy] Considering the price, performs phenomenally. Most of the downsides are software related. Personally Dirac worked fine, just has a very dated UI and switches HDMI pretty slowly. Also if the format changes it goes black while it updates.

This is an outstanding product, this took my entertainment center to a whole new level.

Best Buy is now using 3rd party sellers and doesn’t honor price matching but they hide this from you until you actually try to get a price match. Bad Best Buy policy. Don’t ever buy anything from resellers. The unit als o is not as good as previous ONKYO units. Sub as a mirror no longer works ( no sound only picture sent). If you use 2nd zone instead of sub only works if you downgrade the audio from Dolby to less. Also no longer wakes with Sonos playing. The menus have lost lots of functionality so the onkyo upgrade on the unit is actually a downgrade. Buy something else

This product is 5 out of 5 Stars. The sound that it produces is second to none. Such layered sounds when looking at UHD movies/television showes. Simply Awesome!

I'm coming from a Denon AVR-4700H. It was a pretty good receiver, but I have to say this Onkyo receiver is amazing. This is my first Onkyo. The Denon was 30 pounds. This behemoth is 50 pounds which usually means more hardware to push more power. Once turned on the clarity and detail can be heard especially in surround speakers. I'm running a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system with two separate Emotiva Bas-X amps. Highly recommend this receiver to get that extra little push from your system to bring it to the next level

For the cost, this is a tremendous value. To get similar features, could easily spend $1k+
