PAIN AND GLORY is Pedro Amaldovar's most personal film to date, and rightfully so, as the main character, brilliantly interpreted and performed by Antonio Banderas, is Pedro Amaldovar, only with a different name. Amaldovar, as portrayed by Banderas, through the course of the film, is intimately affected by those with whom he grows up with and with whom helped to create his genius and persona...his mother, father, lover and the actor his character made famous. With personal abandon, Amaldovar has created an autobiographical interpretation of his life, his growing up, his drug abuse, his triumphs and failures, and throughout, always intimately personal and truhthfully. Every actor in this film beautifully creates his or her character in Amaldovar's life, but foremost, by Antonio Banderas, in his most authentic and personal portrayal of Amaldovar, who is a long time professional colleague and close friend.

A film director reflects on the choices he's made as past and present come crashing down around him. Well crafted film. Penelope Cruz was snubbed from the Oscars! A must watch and great performances from the cast.

If you're not watching Almodovar, you're missing out. Bask in the style; cry with the melancholy; laugh with the farce; drool to the atmosphere.
